I realize that what works for some may not work for others and that we are all different but I'd like to pose this question:

In retrospect, (or currently) what do you, personally, consider to be the worst RA medication you've ever taken and why?

Thanks for your time.

K.

Celebrex... it did absolutely nothing for me.

are we counting OTC meds too?

RX meds ive done pretty well on they just eventually wore off.

I am in agreement on Celebrex!  Did nothing for me!

Sandra

Pred.

I got MUCH worse on that.

Pip

P.S.  And I almost lost my liver on Aleve.

Arava: caused raised liver enzymes and hair loss [QUOTE=kelsaysmommy]

Naproxen/Aleve helps me quite a bit.

MY RHEUMY RX ME WELLS BURTIN THAT WAS THE WORST STUFF

I HAVE EVER TAKEN.

EDIT:  I forgot, because its a little surreal.  But I was put on Zelnorm for about 3-4 months, and LOVED it.  My bowel health improved dramatically.  But, I didn't connect it back then and finally ended up in the ER with these crushing chest pains and gurgling lungs when I laid down, and was finally patted on the hand by the ER nurse and told I needed to handle my stress better.  Zelnorm was pulled from the market in March for causing heart attacks, with fatalities and if I am reading it correctly, the company hid these from the FDA during the clinical trials.  I told them if I had one more of these attacks (about 4-5, each worsening), it would kill me, that I was having a heart attack.  But alas, once again, the ER proved me wrong :)  The attacks slowly disappeared as about the time I hit the ER I was finishing up the Zelnorm.  Then I went off to handle my stress and depression some more until I found some real doctors.

justsaynoemore39365.2068865741Hmmm...I've only take two, MTX and Enbrel, and so far so good.  Do RA meds always wear off over time?  It sure seems that way reading the boards.

Clarification...

ANY med, including OTC and specifically, what was it about the med you chose as your worst that caused you to choose it?

K.

For me the worst RA drug in terms of it did absolutely nothing for me was Sulfasalazine.  I might as well have been taking a sugar pill.

The worst for me in terms of making me sick was plaquinil.  I had  horrible stomach problems and unrelenting bad rashes on my arms, legs and face.  Its strange how this drug can be so mild for some and cause terrible allergic reactions to others.

Interesting thread, thanks for starting it, Katalina.

crispy39364.8152199074Well, nothing has made me sick.  MTX makes my hair fall out, but not that bad.  I keep thinking I can see my hairline receding but people say I'm imagining it.  But it works well with the enbrel.  800 mg Motrin did NOTHING for my pain. At all.Mobic was the worst on my stomach so far. I mean, it worked, but MAN that was TERRIBLE heart burn and upset stomach. :(

And Lodine - ew what a waste of a pill. I don't know why, but that one never even WORKED for me.
Vicodine 750s gave me zero pain relief. I have tried a few other RX pain meds that did nothing.  Humira and Rituxan did absolutely nothing for me, and I had an allergic reaction to Voltaren. Enbrel and Remicade both stopped working after about a year. My current combination of Orencia and AP seems to be doing the best thus far.

Let's see...well, I have hated every med, b/c of side effects.  Hands down the worst one was Plaquanil.  Huge reaction and made my skin hurt, b/c it actually inflames the psoriasis, so I was a huge blister, with fever and everything.  YEP...hate it all.

Pred - does nothing

Arava - absolutely nothing and sent me into a total flare

Humira - repeated infections which flared the RA and then I became immune.

Vioxx.  I ended up in ER with BP of 220/124.  Spent 3 days in the hospital.  Took another 3 weeks to stabilize.  Horrible reaction.  Could have stroked easily due to the meds.  Lindy

Sulfasalazine!  I had terrible abdominal bloating and cramping.  Didn't even make it up to the normal dosage.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine on Vioxx.  Merck should rot in hell for inflicting that nightmare on people. sulfazalazine.  only on it for about 5 weeks and it didnt do much in that time but i developed a sun allergy and had to come off.
