Q about pred on behalf of Milly | Arthritis Information

Does prednisone at a high level suck the moisture out of your eyes and mouth?  I had eye pain and a headache before I started pred, but I still had moisture in my eyes and in my mouth.  I thought I'd choke from a dry throat last night.  I am still progressing with this flare, as today my knee is painful.  Does this sound normal for prd, or does it sound more like sjogren's(sp)?I just ate a cup of diced puple onion. Got three whole tears out of that. Anyway piont is it helped.Maybe you should get some fake tears from the drug store.  Yes i know the car is down and sis isn't back yet. But i plan on it. Thanks. I am sick and stranded of sorts today. Ordered the onions on the side from the sandwhich shop. got a cup of green pepper also , it was funny had the pred munchies i guess.

Hi , I had a lot of problems related to taking prednisone, but because i had 'plugs put into my eye ducts years ago' I didn't have dry eyes. I gained weight from the out of control eating frenzy (cocoa puffs!, by the box) and the puffy moon face, ugh.

What I liked was the instant and continued help with pain and swelling, plus the 'high' I felt. Lots of energy!.

good luck with this, I've been Pred free for 16 days, and although I don't feel as good, I'm glad I finally made it off!! Please, call up Wikipedia if you are unaware of the bad things prednisone can cause.

Lynda

Lynda, what are plugs?  I never heard of them before.  Sorry, have no idea what the medical terms are for this < I can try to find out tomorrow and write again, the eye doctor did it! I had complained of 'dry eyes' , so my RA sent me to an eye doctor. He did something to my tear ducts that keeps the water in my eyes < i know this is vague. I was told they were 'plugs'. My eyes seem to water all of the time , too much, but I don't want them dry either. LyndaWow. It's crazy the things they can do isn't it?  Glad it worked for you.  You probably don't really appreciate the moisture in your eyes till you lose it.  I mean, who thinks about that kind of stuff when there isnt a problem? The plugs are called "punctal" plugs.  They can be made of material that will dissolve in 6 months or plastic ones that are permanent.  I am on the prescription restasis for dry eyes and also had the plugs.  They are inserted in the lower inner aspect of the eyes.  The plug prevents moisture from "draining" out of the eye. It is almost like a "plug" in a bathtub.  It doesn't create moisture, just keeps it in the "tub".

I started having problems with my eyes at the same time I found I had RA.  I was in so much pain from the RA I did not even notice the dryness and pain in my eyes.  My corneas were already scratched by the time I went to the eye doctor.

They have helped quite a bit.  I also use special mouthwash and drops for my dry mouth called biotene.

My doc just put me on restasis, calling what I have sjorgens.... I go to the eye doc tommorrow also.

I have dry eyes, mouth, skin...... I itch so bad.

I did not know you could scratch your corneas from dry eyes
