Q: I am trying to find out what kind of foods are good to eat to help your body if you have gout.

A: To relieve the pain of gout, there must be a way to eliminate the uric acid that has accumulated in the body. Normally, the body eliminates enough uric acid in the urine or through the intestines to keep its concentration at a healthy level. In people with gout, however, the body either produces excessive amounts of uric acid or its ability to eliminate uric acid is impaired in some way. In either case, the high concentration results in its crystallization within the joints and possibly in other areas of the body.

For current attacks of gout, one of the best natural therapies to reduce the pain and inflammation is black cherry juice. Black cherry juice neutralizes uric acid. Fresh cherries and fresh strawberries also help neutralize uric acid, as do nuts, seeds, and grains, although to a lesser extent. For long-term relief of gout symptoms, changes in diet are suggested, most especially eliminating or reducing consumption of foods that are high in uric acid.

Foods that contain uric acid include:

The foods listed above carry differing amounts of uric acid. If you suffer from gout, you will be able to determine which foods you can tolerate and which foods you must avoid by keeping a food diary.

Wild lingzhi and complimentary Chinese herbs can help gout in your life time tremendously.Cherry helps but wild lingzhi (herb) is for life.I have recently been diagnosed with gout and its not as painful for me yet however 2 years ago I walked in a race and my legs started hurting after that and then I was finally diagnosed with gout and slight case of arthritus what to doWhen sour cherries were in season here I ate lots of them, they really helped with my gout as well as RA pain!  The problem is they are seasonal, they have frozen ones but I wonder if they are as potent?

Also black tart cherries are effective for a good nights sleep. The tart black cherries are loaded with melatonin:

Tart cherries have been proven to help fight jet lag because they contain melatonin, which influences your biological clock. Research conducted at the University of Texas Health and Science Center found that cherries contain more melatonin than what is found naturally in your body on a daily basis.

In fact, they contain more concentrated sources of melatonin than any other food. Now that’s a way to ensure you sleep tight!

Bringing this to the top for informations sake.I can't say that eating cherries has ever helped me when I had a gout attack. The only thing that really works for me to prevent attacks is a strict diet low in sugar. Love black cherries glad they are beneficialSusier, much more benificial than your spam.Chinese Medications have many benefits, you could try each and every one of it, see if it's working. I haven't heard of this but there is a good homoeopathic remedy for gout. Try Ledum. There is not research that shows that any ingredient in Gout Chi can treat gout or reduce uric acid in the body. Can you explain Gout Chi ingredient?

Black cherry juice  Get some natural, concentrated black cherry juice and drink several tablespoons of the concentrate daily. You should expect relief in 48 hours.

Blueberries are high in anti-inflammatory compounds called anthocyanins, which help ease the pain of gout.

Scientific Study about Black Cherry Juice and Gout

A study done at the University of California Davis showed the effectiveness of using black cherry juice for gout.

This study demonstrated that consuming a serving of black cherries a day lowered uric acid levels by as much as 15%. Since uric acid is the major culprit that causes gout, this research is very promising.

Using black cherry juice for gout makes sense because of the way uric acid crystals affect the body. Uric acid accumulates in response to many factors, the most common being from eating too many rich foods.

You eat these foods for a while, your pH gets more acidic, and uric acid forms. Uric acid crystallizes into microscopic needles.

These needles then stick into the cartilage in peripheral extremities, like your big toe. That's the painful part. By drinking black cherry juice, you raise your pH, the uric acid crystals dissolve, and you feel better.

This uric acid lowering property of black cherry juice is due to the antioxidants called anthocyanins.

These antioxidants reduce pain, reduce the likelihood of stroke, and lower the risk of heart attack. Anthocyanins, like all antioxidants, also protect healthy cells from premature death, thereby promoting longevity.

Struggled with gout for almost a decade...3 flare ups a year...different toes each time...

Read about Cherry Juice...the last two times i started to feel an attack was coming on I went to Giant Eagle (grocery store) and bought a bottle of pure black cherry juice...

Literally...within a few hours the gout attack began to go away and by the next morning all signs were gone....

I SWEAR by pure black berry juice...

Also...i drank the entire bottle in a couple of hours and had to "evacuate" more than normal...but you could almost tell it was the uric acid coming out...

An amazing remedy...i no longer fear gout as a result...How do you know? Do you even have gout? If not why do you post advice for others when your disease is RA. Now go to the RA board where you can claim to be an expert merely by having the disease.[QUOTE=Dulouz]Struggled with gout for almost a decade...3 flare ups a year...different toes each time...
