how is it possible to get a sinus infection without first being stuffy and stuff? I get them ALL the time, even since before i went on enbrel.... I think its the being IGA deficiant. Anyway, since i was sick a few weeks ago my sinus have been hurting, i dont want an infection though i dont want to stop enbrel! im using my allergy nose spray that i havnt used in months to see if that helps, but i guess if its not getting better its over to student health to get antibiotics :( sooooo do you guys get sinus infections without a cold first?

im SOOOOOO tired cant stay awake to study!sorry your not feeling well.. but i have gotten sinus infections w/o having a cold first as well.  not sure how its possible but it sure is...hope you get well ASAP...how did your finals go? haha exams were horrible, i got more coming up next week, failed organic chem....hopefully it will get curvedUse a neti pot.  Sinucleanse is a brand of neti pot that you can get at Walgreens for about .

Also, many sinus infections need to be treated for 3 weeks or more with high doses of antibiotics.  Blood flow in the sinuses is low, so you need to treat for a longer time to make sure you kill everything. Your medical care provider should do a culture so they make sure to prescribe an antibiotic that will actually kill the germs.  Sometimes it's fungal or viral, and antibiotics won't do anything.

I was having problems for quite a while (like my whole life!!!), until I finally got the infection under control last year with Levaquin and also started using a neti pot to keep the sinuses clear.

Just wanted to let you know that Enbrel has a side effect of causing sinus problems.  Please read all that lovely fine print that comes with the injections.  I have had sinus problems also most of my life, but when I was on Enbrel they were double and my migraines increased also.

I have since changed from Enbrel to Remicade and have had no sinus infections since!

You might want to discuss this side effect with your doctor.

i know enbrel causes more, but i havnt had more then normal since being on enbrel, its been almost a year.... i get like 2 or 3 a winter thats pretty standard for me I agree with the sinus cleanser. It's a bit gross, but boy does it clean out the gunk! LOL If you want to stay on Enbrel, I would definately give it a try.

OMG Leviquin worked wonders for me....2 winters ago I had a horrible sinus infection that lasted from mid November till almost the begining of March...OMG it SUCKED!!! we tried sooo many different antibiotics and they didnt work till they precribed me Levoquin which i believe was about 0 since i didnt have ins...needless to say I did NOT pay for that precription (the pharmasist didnt blame me either) i called the dr for samples and they gave em to me...Best thing they ever could have done...And I havent had a sinus infection where I had to be on antibiotics since then....So i guess it did something for me...

Sorry that you didnt do well on your tests.  What clases are you taking now or are you in the same classes?

I am being treated for a sinus infection now. I didn't have a stuffy nose, but my head was KILLING me and I had a low grade fever. mentioned that to my RA doctor and they check me out and gave me a z-pac.

Missed my first injection of enbrel because of it.

So yes you can have one with out cold symptoms. It probably just hasn't broken yet.

I didn't know it causes sinus infections! I get them ALL the time and I told him that. Guess that didn't matter to him. I swear he is just an Enbrel pusher!!!!!!!!

same classes, they were midterm exams, french, organic chemistry, cell biology and chorus

i had a low grade fever for a week and a half a few weeks ago, since then cheeks hurt....never been stuffy though at all!

I have had sinus infections my whole life without getting a cold first. Could you have chronic sinusitis? I haven't had one since I was put on singulair to dry up the chronic sinusitis. It sure sounds like a sinus infection. You should try to see a dr. before it gets worse.

Yes you can get the sinus infection without the cold first. I often start allergy season with an infection first and don't start snezzing until i get rid of the infection. Some how the infection keeps your sinuses from running. So at first with my RA my doctor and i thought i was fatiqued possibly from hayfever as allergies do make you tired, I told him it just seemed like more fatique than that. But yes it is possible. But now i have a headache and i don't know? Is it sinus or RA? It is a pickle to fiquer out when you don't have the running nose. Is your throat sore or anything?Laker, I was put on singulair for asthma, I didnt know that it also helps sinuses. Like they say you learn something new every day.I take singulair, zyrtec and rhinocort for allergies and asthma. its very possible i have chronic sinusitis, lol who knows i think part of the reason for all my sinus infections is that i dont have an immunoglobulin A... once I had one for a year, i dont even know how many diff antibiotics i was on

I too have got a sinus infection without a cold.  (which I think I am getting right now, a cold, and not too happy about).

I have had to see the doc twice this summer in 3 months for antibiotics for it and have never needed antibiotics for the sinus before.

Hey hon - that Rhinocort could be causing you to be much more susceptible to sinus infections as well.  It can leave you prone to bacterial and fungal overgrowth in the sinuses.  There is an antihistamine nasal spray "Astelin" available by prescription; you might want to talk with your doctor about switching to that if you really need something beyond oral antihistamines.  It doesn't increase the potential for infection like Rhinocort and other nasal steroid sprays do.

Make sure that whatever antibiotics they are giving you, that you are given a dosage adequate to knock out chronic sinusitis.  To kill mine, I was on high-strength Levaquin for a month straight.  The doctor should really do a culture to see what the offending organism is - "know your enemy".
