Don't want to go into all the details, but it seems that this particular pain mgmt doctor pretty much just prescribes narcotic pain meds, which I am not able to take. He did refer me to an aquatic program for RA, so I will check into that on Monday. Thanks to all who wrote and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! love and hugs, Juliah

Juliah...I was so hoping that he would help you with the pain management and depression.  Go back to your GP, and see if he will help with antidepressants.

I am so sorry this turned out to be less than helpful to you.  I hope the aquatic program works out well, if nothing else...it will give you some time to get some exercise, which will help in the long run.

Keep posting special lady!

Hi Juliah, I hope they can help with the pain.  I did an aquatic program during the summer.  It certainly helped, but I still needed narcotics.  I am doing Tai Chi for arthritis now and it is very helpful in the morning for stretching.  Luckily, I haven't had to use narcotics for the last 2 weeks. I am on my 6th week of enbrel and it is working great!  My last lab had my ESR in the normal range for the first time in almost 2 years.

Good luck!  It would be nice if they offered massage therapy or acupuncture for you.

Juliah good luck with the new program.

Doctors are odd.  I mean such as you have one that only wants to push pills I have one that wants to give you nothing stronger than IBprofin for pain.  Doesn't matter if you can't even move.

I know of others that go to different docs in this area and even the pain place.  They say the same thing.  They won't give you anything nor even tell you some home remidie that might work.  And they have a voice for the ppl in the newspaper that blames the docs for the drug problem in the area.  I just find that so funny.

Juliah, thanks for the update.  I was hoping you'd get something different than just narcotics.

It seems like "Pain Management Clinics" = "Narcotic Dispensers" - Can anyone prove that wrong???? Recently heard on the news about a study that said that phyical activity works as well as meds for depression.  I don't know if I believe it or not.  But, the Tai Chi, swimming and gentle slow walking on a treadmill has helped my achiness and stiffness.  Sometimes I really don't feel like going, but I always feel so much better afterward.  Sure hope you enjoy your new activity!

Crap Juliah, I was hoping you have some luck with Pain management. I hope you get something out of the aquatic program.

Sending you a big hug!

I would strongly suggest using higher doses of prednisone to using narcotics which leads to anti-depressants and alot of other very bad etcs. Prednisone is one of the very safest pain management drugs. Of course, always check with a health care professional before taking my advise.

Hi Juliah, I didn't know you were unable to take narcotic pain meds. Some pain spec. rely primarily on pain meds and anti depress. and others do injections of all kinds. I have had both. Currently I am with the injections dr. but he still prescribes pain meds for me.

We are just not cookie cutter patients. None of us are alike. I have had severe pain issues for many years. The only thing to control my pain is narcotic pain meds. They don't make me loopy at all. As it was explained to me, patients with serious pain get the benefits of the drugs that treats pain, and for those patients, it generally doesn't have the same effects that say, an addict, would get.

I'm so sorry you cannot take them if they think you need them. Hopefully the aquatherapy will help.

Much love,

Nini

I agree with Nini.  I had 3 different types of pain meds (narcotics) that I had to use or could not function well at all.  I know I could not have worked.  It took me about a year to be convinced that I could go on them and I wouldn't be spacey.  Since Enbrel is working so well I have been able to go from 1-2 a day to 1-2 a week.

I don't miss them at all, but would take them again if I needed to.

Hi Juliah, I am so sorry that the pain doctor was no help!  My Mom has been going for years and the only thing that has worked is methadone (which scares me to death).  I have just joined a gym and been trying to get into shape.  I took my first aquatics class yesterday and these grannies kicked my butt

< =text/>_popupControl(); Oh Juliah...I am so sorry the pain management program wasn't what you wanted it to be.  Not ALL pain management is narcotic prescribing count your pills try this try that narcotic type of thing.  There are ones out there that do other things to help control pain like the aquatic therapy...massage therapy...bio feedback..etc.  Maybe keep looking for one that does that type of thing?  Call some with your list of what YOU expect and what YOU want out of a pain management program.
