food allergies and RA | Arthritis Information
Does anyone on here have food allergies? I read a lot of stuff about people with autoimmune diseases having food allergies and that there is a big correlation between that and symptoms. I have recently found out that I am lactose intolerant and also that I have an intolerance to wheat. I am also now being tested for celiac. Does anyone else have these related problems? If not, read up. There seems to be quite a connection between digestive/food problems and autoimmune.

Brit, I have read that too and I have even tried changing my diet but I'm not sure it helped. It could be possible that I would have to stick to it for quite some time before I would notice a difference.
I don't know if I have any allergy problems to food, I just know that I
have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It might be caused by food
allergies I never thought about it. Good question.

Hi Brit, I have read those connections but the food they suggest you avoid is almost my complete diet. Some of the foods that I have been told that can trigger inflammation are the nightshade family - potatoes, peppers, and tomatoes. All wheat and corn. Dairy and Sugar. Also processed foods. What is left????? It was just too much for me. Many folks on here have discussed diet as a way to control ra. I just avoid processed foods, as I figure my body is dealing with enough chemicals from the meds. Let us know what you learn. Roxannehmm well after being diagnosed with RA I became lactose intolerant and
also cant drink anything with carbonation. *shrugs* I dont know if
thats because of RA or the fact that I used ibuprofen for almost 3
yrs.
I am on a very strict diet to control my RA which includes, among other
things, no wheat and no dairy. Like Roxy, I have been given a
long list of things I cannot have. In answer to the
question: What's left? What is left is minimized symptoms
and a fairly normal life. To me that is a fair trade off. I
hope you continue to find the root cause of your RA.
Interesting question about allergies. I am lactose intolerant and allergic to all seafood and shellfish as well as eggs. Since I don't eat any of those things I guess it can't have an affect on my RA. Or....maybe I should eat them anyway - no chance
