I was thinking about asking my RD to put me on mtx shots. At one time I
took the oral and it made me horrible sick. Im currently on Enbrel and
it works good, but towards the end of the week it starts to wear off. I
dont know. Anyway I was wondering if mtx shots are given weekly? And do
I give them to myself like the Enbrel or whats the deal. Also if anyone
has had a better reaction to either oral or shots. Thanks again :)
I give myself a shot of mtx once a week. I got very sick from it too but I think folic acid has made it better. I also take zofram for the nausea. It works very well and doesn't make me sleepy.
I can't remember how Enbrel shots are given...if they are sub
cutanenously done then MTX is like that. Here's what my rheumy
told me....or rather what I said when she asked if i knew how to give
myself MTX...fill syringe, swipe skin withalcohol swab, jab into skin
at 45 degree angle. push plunger....slowly til shot is
gone...pull needle out.
she just nodded and left the room. i'd never done it before but
had seen my best friend do it...and while i was nervous when the time
came, i handled it better than my dear hubby...who from then on left
the room when i did my shots. although i've got just enough hand damage
that those little tiny bottles were hard for me to flip upside down to
draw into the syringe so i made him do that...then he left.
my son wanted so bad to sit next to me and watch but i wouldn't let him
for fear he'd move and i'd jab too far in or he'd get in the way
somehow and i'd get him. now i'd let him watch...probably let him
fill the syringe if he could do it. forgot to add, i did much
better on inj. than oral...except the one time i just could not do the
injection as my hands were too sore and shaky....so i injected it into
OJ, which my doc said was acceptable....and it made me sick like the
oral pills...actually worse since my dose had gone up. never
again would i do that.
