New therapy - any ideas? | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, I have been awaiting Rituximab therapy, had to be delayed due to severe chest infection, got a call today from Rheumys office and my Dr reckons I should be trying Orencia first (Abatacept) so he wants to see me next week and then start therapy as soon as able, what do you all reckon?  He reckons it will be safer for me as I have had reactions to nearly all Dmards.  Have been doing quite well so took my pred down slowly for the last 5 weeks, today was awful, thought it was too good to be true!!!!!  Back to GP tomorrow for blood results, I am terribly itchy, I think she said that could be from the Liver?????  Any input would be great.  Also I am taking my 11 yr old for his Brain MRI on Friday after his seizure, please pray for us, thankyou, hugs from Janie.XX

< =text/>_popupControl(); Well...I guess I would go with what your doc says.  If he is saying that Orencia is going to be safer for you...then that is what I would go with.  You said you had reactions to the dmards tho.  The biologics like Orencia are different from the dmards so maybe you will not have a bad reaction to it.  Here's hoping that you don't.

Please let us know what the doc says about your test results for your liver.

We will be praying for you and your family.  I hope the MRI goes well for your son.  Has he had anymore seizures at all?

Janie, I would ask the doctor why the infection prevents you from the Rituximab, but not the Orencia.  I think I'd be a little concerned about that.  I too am waiting for Rituximab because of a sinus infection.

Hope it goes well for you, and I will keep your little one in my thoughts.

Janie...so glad the chest infection has healed and you can focus on what is next.  The good thing about Orencia is that it is only about a half hour to an hour drip.  I would love that especially looking at something that would take four to seven hours.

I don't know why he would chose one over the other, but I guess their might be a reason.  I hope your liver is ok.  That is the scariest of all to me.

I hope the MRI turns out just perfect and your family can get back to "normal".  I shall be praying for him and you.  This is a lot of stress, but it sounds like your body is handling it very well.  Take care and rest up.  shel

Janie, I just want you to know that I will be praying for you and your son.Janie ~

I would go with what you doctor says too.  Maybe he came across some new news on the Orcencia that looks like you would do better with it.  I wish you good luck with it.

I hope your son is ok and this was just a fluke.  You and your family will be in my prayers!
Aw Janie, you hang in there.  It's never easy is it?  We are pulling for you.  Take care ~~ Cathy

Janie.I'm with the others, unless you have some reason you don't want to use Orencia I'd follow his advice.

About your son, I will be praying that the MRI shows the docs what they need to see, and that you will have the wisdom to know what to do from their.  Please let me know.

AP therapy seems to be working for me so far, although it's a bit of a roller coaster to be sure. Other than that I can't think of anything.

Good luck with the Orencia!
