Speak up! Britenny, one of our Canadian friends, stated in a thread that she wears a “medic alert bracelet” which ID’s the fact that she takes mtx. Does anyone else wear ID for any RA meds? I haven’t thought about this…perhaps I/we should?

Mike

I have an enbrel key tag and a card in my wallet that lists all the drugs I take- also on my cell phone is an emergency list which calls my husband.I've thought about it but no one in the medical field as suggested I do so.  I'm also allergic to vicadin, morphine and sulfa.  If you are in an accident, I hear the first thing they give you is morphine.  I hope I'm awake to say "no, thank you"my dr said we should carry emergency cards listing meds.. He said even prednisone is bad stuff if you have to have emergency surgery.  I forgot what he said it did.   When I had the emergency surgery for  the staph infection, they said they gave me some shot to reverse the effects of prednisone.   Any nurses out there that could tell us what prednisone does?i'm not sure about pred on the surgery issue, but one other thing, if you are supposed to be on it and for some reason cannot communicate that to hospital staff and aren't getting it, it can cause all kinds of nasty little things.   even death.  a friend of mine had a scare and her husband literally thought she was dying...they finally figured out it was because she didn't have pred and her body wasn't producing it.  once they boosted her with IV pred...she started getting better.  it is always good if you have meds or allergies to list them...or especially with major med allergies...wear a medic alert bracelt or something.  i know one woman on multiple meds that may change that just has a medica alert bracelet that says something about multiple meds..and where to find the med info.

FYI....Prednisone increases the risk of infection during surgery.I have been told by gp a med alert tag is a good idea.  I have worked on many medical emergencies where victim was unconscious.  The first thing we do is look for a med alert tag.  I/we should get one...........tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.........................
