I finally got in to see my orthopedic yesterday.(She is in practice with my reheumy).She finally did a chest xray after I seen 2 othe dr.'s and no chest xray.Chest looks fine,bones look fine.She thinks that all this pain I am having in my shoulde blade and back and chest is due to inflamation that is pinching a nerve.She also thinks this is all related to my first episode of pain and just feeling like death back in early June is all connected to what is going on now.I do too.She put me on predisone and had my reheumy appt. moved up from late Oct. to next week.I love my ortho.She is so good to me.
I have been on predisone before many years ago when I had one of these flares.It helped.But I feel the worst now than ever.if I have to be on predisone for awhile ,what should I exspect?What are the side effects and how long will a dr. have you on predisone?

It did for me. I couldn't believe the difference. Too bad it has to have so many bad side effects. It's inexpensive and effective but once again that piper has to be paid.PREDNISONE WORKS WELL AND FAST!!!! WHAT DOSE ARE YOU ON??
SHEILA, MY RHEUMY DID MRI'S OF MY HANDS. THAT'S HOW I GOT RA DIAGNOSIS...THE EROSION IT SHOWED. XRAYS DON'T SHOW UP BEGINNING EROSIONS LIKE MRI'S DO! I am on a 6 day pack.6, 5 mg. tablets yesterday,5 today and then 4,3,2,1. I was doing pretty good til about 30 minutes ago.I guess over doing it cause I felt good.I haven't rested all day.Time to take a break.But I can tell the predisone is helping. When you do start off at 30 mg. then decrease can the pain get better than get worse again quickly once you decrease the dosage? Sheila Sheila: Ah, a medrol pack -- yeah baby! By day two you should be flying and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Medrol packs gave me a big energy boost and made me feel ever so much better -- and not the side effects so prominent in taking pred at a level dose over time. I have long referred to prednisone as "Witch in a bottle -- with a capital B." This doesn't even go into the fact that my backside is now as big as Texas -- and all the other lovely side-effects. It's the medicine we love to hate -- feels so good while it melts your bones. I also vacumn at midnight on a medrol pack - can't sleep more than an hour. But it works like nothing else., wish they could take all the side effects out of it...One of my ferrets takes prednisone to up his glucose...he doesn't seem to get a puffy face
