I had a failed knee replacement | Arthritis Information

I'm so upset.  I found out yesterday that my knee replacement (it was one year and 3 months ago) needs to be redone.  It seems that my ligaments aren't doing well with the new prosthesis and the Dr. wants to redo it using a different type. Any comments?

Can you please explain what is happening with your ligaments (tendons?)  The reason I ask is that I had a knee replacement in July and have golfed several times and have developed tendon pain and stiffness.  I thought that I had overused the knee but it's been 3 weeks and it's no better and seems to be getting worse.

Why can't the tendons be surgically repaired, why a new prothesis.  Lindy

Have either of you looked into finding a doctor who does Prolotherapy?  It does a superb job at healing ligaments and tendons.  It is very risk-free and has excellent results.   I wish you both the best of luck in your recovery.

I just posted under Osteoarthritis with my problem after knee surgery.

It's kind of dumb, my wife had it too, and she crawls around on the floor with the Grandkids.

I read in a magazine that there are four or five manufacturers of knee prostheses.  They give kickbacks to the surgeon for using their product.  Some of them will use a prosthesis even if it is not the best one for that particular patient.  Something to think about.  Good luck. Before surgery each patient should educate themselves about the  manufacturers of knees and what they have to offer.  I know it sounds like a daunting process but with the internet it's possible.  It pays to read about all of them.  Talk with your orthopedic surgeon about the different prothesis and why he only uses one type.  Each prosthesis comes in about 8 different sizes.  Also, I found out that the new "lady knee" really isn't much different  from the other knee prosthesis.  It's all in the manufacturing hype. There's very little difference between our knees except for size.

I found out the ligament and tendon pain was a PsA flare....and not my knee.  My knee is doing absolutely great.  Lindy
