My rheumatologist prescribed Arava yesterday and I'm wondering about the best time to take it, etc. I took the first pill last night and so far so good. I will still be taking Methotrexate, but at half the dose.

Hi Kathleen nice to have you join us. I take arava and I take it first thing in the morning but I dont think it matters when its taken. I have been on it now for nearly 12 months and have just started enbrel also. Most people chat on the RA thread so it would nice for you to join us there. Welcome again from down under . Ally
I hope you don't mind that I am joining this thread to ask a question about my own medications.
I am taking Humira and prednisone. I have heard that Arava is a better drug/ substitute for prednisone. Has anyone else heard this? I really need to get off prednisone, I have been on it for too long and am experiencing serious side effects but was bedridden without prednisone mobility wise. Anyone have any info on this drug? One Dr told me that it worked something like methotrexate boosting the effects of Humira. I cannot take methotrexate as I vomited non stop will taking.
