Hi, does anyone know about Asics Gt 2120 "running' shoes? Ya right?! My foot doc recommended them and they cost 0.00. Would like to know if they are worth the money? LyndaI haven't used that particular model, I LOVE asics air kayona (or something like that)   Worth every penny.

Lynda, I have also heard KEENS are good, and about half that price.  Yep, clearance sales.  I do need an all around shoe that I can wear subbing too, but no money for my shoes...probably need to replace DS shoes soon...size 12...ouch!

Shelly, how tall are you?  Those are some big feet

LMBO Link, I think Shelly meant her son's (ds) shoes, size 12.

A good running shoe store can fit them correctly to your feet

Personally I never skimp on the price of a good pair of shoes.  They last longer, fit better than a less expenice pair.  You may save money up front but you spend the same over the long run

Oh.  Yeah.  I just got the ds. hehehehe

Gale, lol, I wear size 6, Trey is 6'2" and wears a 12. You'd look funny in a small shoe being tall, I'm 5'1"

heck Link I could sleep in his shoes!

I hate all of you tall skinny peopleI am also a fan of New Balance. Best .00 I spent!! My new ones are Dr. Scholls gel something. (walking shoes) They are pretty comfy. I have only worn them 3-4 times so far tho. Well Mo, c'mon over.  He left some shoe's and boots when he left. I'll make you a little blankie out of a hankie.

You smartie! I'm short, not smallDoes anyone else have a collection of shoes is a variety of sizes?

Nearly all my shoes are those unattractive orthopaedic-type, but they range in size from a 7 to a 9. Which pair fits the day depends on what part of my foot happens to be uncomfortable and where today's pedal pressure point resides.

I recently treated myself to a pair of Bearpaw slip-on slippers lined with sheepskin. I WILL have another pair ASAP!

Lynda

they come in wide just not wide enough for my extra short, extra wide, high arched foot.

As I said try going to a good running shoe store for a fitting,  they will find the best brand and model for your foot.  They do far better fittings than your average show store and they know which models are designed to fix particular problems.

If thw Asics don't fit they can find one that will.

Hi, thanks everyone. I think I'll find some to try on and then seee what the magic is about them. Then I'll find something similar for less than 0. Never paid that much for a pair of shoes in my life! (hope that isn't why I have bad feet) LMy GP in TX recommended Berkenstock shoes when I was teaching and my feet were getting terribly tired by the end of the day.  That was before I was dx with RA.  I dont know if my new rheumy here would  recommend them or not.  Its warm here in Panama --like summer year round, 75 - 89 degrees.  Sport shoes are toooooo hot except in the airconditioned gym.  So got myself some Teve sport sandals, the ones that have velco straps.  They are really great when my feet swell because they are fully adjustable, cool and waterproof (this is the rainy season).  Actually, they have sport shoe soles so are like wearing sport walkers.  I love em. I saw an advertisement for gel floor mats in this month's Arthritis Today magazine:

For those of you who spend a lot of time on your feet, either at work or at home, I highly recommend a cushioned floor mat.  They're commonplace in manufacturing facilities, pharmacies and laboratories.  They make quite a difference.

Lynda,

spend the money for a GOOD pair of shoes.  these shoes offer better padding, better support and they last longer than the cheaper versions.  Your feet will thank you for it

I have a terrible time buying shoes because I wear orthotics.  Good shoes are worth their weight in gold.  I just bought these for work!

They have lots of wide shoes!!

Lynda,

I have Asics TN611 and absolutely love them.  I spend 90% of my time in them. I have two pair so that I can give one pair the day off.

Buckeye,

I have issues with the need for wide athletic shoes.  I have switched to men's as they seem to have a much wider toe box and are just wider overall.  The styles are identical.  Usually the only difference is the color--I have red accents rather than blue.

As for expense...they are expensive but oh so worth it.  One way I get around that is I have started shopping in October and November for new athletics.  The next years models (now the '08s) are out and they are trying to get rid of last years ('07s) models.  Last year I bought the last four pair of my Asics (in my size) for a total of .  Originally they were each.  Okay, so my 17yo daughter would rather go naked than wear a 'last years' design, but I don't care if they are the 2006 model.  They are comfortable and they fit and they were what I was going to buy anyway.  AND I am just a little older than 17--barely!!!  I swear.

Andrea

Thanks everyone, I'll check all of this out. Most shoes I see have the cushion in the heel, which is nice, but I need it in the front, padded part of my foot.

Left foot is better, but i still feel 'something' there? Not completely solved.

Lynda

I love Merrells! Super cushy - even if the Merrell mocs look abit like Micky Mouses shoes.

Even the very best of brands can cause misery if they don't fit your particuliar feet. The fit is the single most important thing. Don't buy those shoes that will break in eventually - it will break your poor RA foot long before it breaks in.

I have had good luck with fittings in Orthopaedic stores and running shoe stores. Feet can actually change size over the years. Having your feet properly measured is a good place to start the hunt for shoes that do not hurt.
