Hey Pip!

I had trouble with RLS a few years ago and it was suggested to put a bar of soap at the end of my bed between the sheets.  It worked!  I still may have it once or twice a year but the soap takes care of it.

How strange is that!

I took Requip for a while for RLS.  Thank goodness I didn't have those side effects.

Is RLS common for people with RA?

I'd also like to know if RLS is somehow related to RA type diseases.  It was just becoming a real problem for me but when I started the RA drugs it very much improved.  Coincidence?

We don't absorb minerals correctly.  I think it's tied to the endocrine/thyroid connection, somehow.  But, again, I've see post after post. 

Let me ask a question - anybody else notice that the RLS gets worse around ovulation or the onset of mense?  My RLS is mostly gone but 2X a month...

Hey Pip, even with RLS it's funny.  Thanks I needed a little humor this morning.  My RLS got significantly better when I started Lyrica and Vit. D, fish oil, and daily Potassium.  I very rarely have RLS anymore and when I do I just get up and wait it out.  Lindy[QUOTE=Pip!]

Sorry, don't have to deal with that problem any more.  I do know that it got a little better when I started taking the Plaquenil and a multi-vitamin with iron.  My PCP wanted me to take the Multi w/iron because my iron was low.  Maybe it was the multi-vitamin and not the Plaquenil?

 

The only thing that helps my RLS is an anti-Parkinsons medication called Cabaser.  Mine really got bad after I had my second knee replacement. The dr said that surgery on the legs can have that effect.  I didn't sleep for about a year and a half (well, about 2-3 hours a night)  I used to jack-knife every 30-40 seconds so hard that if I was lying on my side I would almost knee myself in the chin.  I would rock my legs back and forth for hours on end, it was the only way to stop the jerks.  I still move my legs semi-voluntarily ( in that I do in unconsciously) because it feels better when they are moving than when they are still.  If I forget to take my Cabaser 2 nights the big jerks start again.  My poor hubby felt like he was sleeping on a trampoline I would jerk so hard.  He actually slept in the spare room for months because he had to get some sleep so that he could go to work in the morning.  It sometimes affects my arms too.  I find it is much worse when I am tired and if I'm sitting for a long time like on a long car ride.

They say it can be a result of a low ferritin level.  I have chronic anemia so maybe that is the root, although I've not really noticed an improvement at the times when my iron levels have been up.

As for the 'side effects'...lets just say some are good, some are bad and some are...well, interesting[QUOTE=Pip!]

Pip, I've never noticed a connection, but I wasn't really paying attention.  I have periods now only because of hormone replacement therapy and I don't know if that would make a difference or not, but I'll let you know if I find a pattern.
