Katie called me late last night to let me know that Justin has been hospitalized once again. This time it is for his Crohn’s. He has a blockage that has appeared out of nowhere and very suddenly. They are looking at one week to ten days in the hospital if the blockage breaks up with medication. If the blockage does not break up with medication, they are looking at him being in the hospital for some time because he will need a small bowel reconstruction. He has already had one of those and the poor guy is only 24!!!
Crohns is kind of like RA of the bowel system lol. It is auto-immune, treated with the same meds (pred…Humira..Remicade…etc), have to watch what you eat, and you have flares with Crohns lol.
These guys just can not catch a break lately. I did talk with Katie last night and she will keep up with taking care of herself also. She is still going to get herself into her RD sooner than her next appointment as she is in a flare right now also.
I will update everyone on everything when I know anything. Katie usually calls me later at night on the way to work or right when she gets in. She is going to be working Justin’s shift for the time being so that means she is going to be working 3rd shift doing the audit etc. so she might not be around as much as she usually is.
Please keep these guys in your thoughts and prayers. They really need them right now.
Darn those two are having a ruff time lately seems like...very sorry to hear, but hopefully the medico's know how to proceed..prayers on the way...
Thanks Liz for the update, and I just feel so sorry lately for those guys. Man, he just needs a break of some kind, and maybe this will be long-lasting. Bowel reconstruction at 24 that is a lot to handle.
Crohns actually goes hand in hand with PA. My dad had it terrible, and was to the point of reconstruction. My sister at 29 has it as well. It is horrible when it flares, and anything can set it off. So, I know what he is going through 'cause I have watched them.
I'm so sorry to hear this latest news. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.Liz, thanks for the update. These two are way too young for this to be happening. I feel terrible for them and so helpless. They have so much fun together and now this on top of everything else. They definately need a break. I'm so glad that they have one another. They are a step ahead of most of us, they found one another and each of them understands what the other is going through. They are lucky in that respect. Thanks again. Let me start with Justin first. He does have an NG tube down his nose (poor guy) and so far the NG tube has removed 500ML of fluid and still going. He has a PIC line with 3 lines going into that. He has had another scan and they pulled his old films and did a comparison. The films from today are showing inflammation in the large bowel also and that is something new for him. They have started talking surgery for the small bowel resection (NOT reconstruction..sheeesh I want my brains back lol) since he is not responding as well as they would like to medication. I do not know when the final decision will come for that as they do not know yet. I’m sure I will know when that happens. Katie has strict instructions to call me at anytime of the day or night. His blood pressure is good and he has gained some color back to his face and body. He is in good spirits and is doing and also accepting what the docs are telling him. They had to increase his pain meds a touch but I really expected that to happen considering how sick he actually is. They are giving him 1 mg of ativan so that he can sleep at night. At this point, is it unknown how long he will actually be hospitalized. All we can really do is pray for the best.
Now, on to Katiekins. Her manager at work has arranged the schedule so that she is off until Thursday. It has also been arranged that she is working her afternoon schedule and not the night audit schedule for now. The guy that normally is Justin’s relief will be doing the full time night audit. We will see how long this lasts as this guy is pretty much a goof and makes lots of mistakes. Hopefully he will get his brains together and not make too many mistakes. I hate seeing Katie working that 3rd shift especially with her in this mild flare. Her flexeril is no longer doing the trick for her and she is has to take 2 to get any relief. She said she is calling her doc tomorrow and going to get in as soon as she can. I am on her case all the time to make sure she is taking care of herself as well. She said to say hi to everyone and when she is up to it, she will be back posting. She hopes everyone is doing well.
Well, as I know more, so will everyone else! Please just keep these guys in your thoughts and prayers!!!
Thanks again Liz. I hope they work fast on Justin, so that he can get on the road to being at least ok for the time being. Have they considered Humira or Remicade for him long term?
I am glad you are there and on Katie about taking good care of herself. I hope the work thing is ok. I know she is trying to do both, but I would really like to see her off until the weekend...just the mom in me talking.

Got a call from Justin's surgeon, he wants to talk to me tomorrow. Called Justin to try to find out what it's all about, he was zonked. Asleep, so he was no help!
Talked to mom and dad. Grandpa is in ICU, he was just about to not make it after the surgery, but he pulled through. They still can't get his BP under control - doesn't seem to matter that he's on SEVEN BP meds. So they're keeping him sedated to try to control it. He hasn't been awake since the surgery. They took out some small bowel and some colon. Mom says he does try to squeeze your hand though, and that's a good sign. I'm supposed to hear more tomorrow, I think they're going to let up on the sedatives tomorrow and see what happens.
So.........can I crawl under a rock now? And can someone else go to work for me? And pay my bills? And feed me? Please?
