Welcome Star to the board!!  You will find great information, support, and many caring people here!!

I have HBP too and take meds for that.  It was a spin off of the RA for me.  Nice eh lol.

Glad that you are not having any side effects from the Enbrel and I hope that it is working well for you.  Those scary type of side effects that you hear about and probably have read about are very rare.  The federal government makes the companies list them and warn us about them.  Unfortunately that scares the crud out of people.  I really feel that taking the Enbrel (or any of the other biologics or dmards) and having a good life *now* far outweighs the slight chance I may 20-30 years from now, develop some type of lymphoma.

Please make sure that you do get your flu shot and that it is NOT the live vaccine.  The live vaccine is the mist that they spray up your nose.  Most RD’s offer the flu and pneumonia shot to their patients this time of the year.  That is how I get mine covered by insurance heeeheee.

Look forward to hearing more from you and jump on in to the board!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I plan on getting my flu shot tomorrow.  Ra runs in my family.  My first cousin was disabled with RA and died from complications from it at the age of 56.  My sister has been disabled from it for quite a few years.  With her anything that can go wrong will.  She has had numerous surgeries for joint replacement on her hands and feet.  I have read that there may be a connection between RA and Diabetes.  My youngest sister and father both had diabetes.  My brother has Lupus.  We are all a big mess.

Welcome to our little family. I find it to be full of wonderful people who will let you cry on their shoulder, give you great advice or just make you laugh.  I hope to see you post often as we all have something to contribute.

Hi Starlark, welcome to the board. Yes there's probably a connection between RA abd Diabetes, they're both caused by a haywire immune system, Type 1 anyways. I have both and honestly if I had to choose would rather have the diabetes, at least I can control it with my pump. Hope the Enbrel works for you, I had to switch to Remicade, after 3 months of Enbrel. < =text/>_popupControl();

I also have the “genetic connection” with RA.  It runs on the maternal side of my family.  Our 22 year old daughter (currently in a pregnancy remission) and our 12 year old daughter have RA.  Our 15 year old daughter has so far escaped the beast but we watch her closely and carefully for any signs of it.  My 12 year old and I share the same rheumatologist.  Our 22 year old lives in a different state than we do.

There can be a connection between RA and diabetes as both are auto-immune diseases.  From what you have said, it sounds like auto immune disease run on both sides of your family.  Lupus is also an auto immune disease.

Hang in there.  The meds they have now are really good and there are more and better ones on the horizon.

Welcome Starlark! Lot's of support and information here, so jump right in!Welcome!

Hi Star!

Welcome!

Hugs,

Pip

Welcome Starlark, you have a lot of family history with so many diseases I can see why you are scared about this RA. It sounds like you are doing the best you can and that your condition will be handled by the medications. It is hard to carry on with our lives when we are suffering and we have just the average everyday problems (dental, eye exams, illnesses) and we get overwhelmed.

I hope you feel well and I'm sure you are an inspiration to the rest of your family. Your loss of your sister must have been very difficult.

Good luck with the treatment and please continue to share your feelings, fears, vents, whatever you want on this forum. There are so many careing, loving people here and we all UNderstand where you are coming from.

Welcome again, don't forget the Private Messenger and that we are always here.Lynda
