ANYBODY HAD AN ULCER?? | Arthritis Information

 

ANY NURSES ON BOARD OR FELLOW RA'RS THAT HAVE GOTTEN AN ULCER WTH NSAIDS?  I GOT DIAGNOSED AT ER FEW WEEKS AGO BUT THE PILLS THEY GAVE ME MAKE ME THROW UP AND I QUIT TAKING THEM.  WAS GONNA CALL MY MD AND GET HIM TO PRESCRIBE A COATED PILL (MINE IS UNCOATED AND DISOLVES BEFORE I CAN GET IT DOWN.)...UGG.  ANYWAY, TUMMY HAS BEEN BURNING BADLY ALL WEEKEND.

I have a number of ulcers, both stomach and small intestine, due to taking a lifetime's worth of NSAIDS. To tell the truth, they never bothered me until I had the endoscopy that diagnosed them. Since then, however, I have been in misery and sometimes it even overrides the RA. Guess you could call it a counter irritant.

The GI doc has me on 40mg Prevacid Solutab---it ain't working!!! What meds did he prescribe for you? I am supposed to go back in October for another endoscopy but since the first one screwed me up so bad, I fear to have another.

All these years we thought those NSAIDS were quite safe--NOT! Hope you get some new meds and feel better soon.

YIKES!!!!  THINKS THAT'S WHAT HE'S SCHEDULING AFTER FIRST MEETING.   WHAT HAPPENED WITH YOU??

Kidlet...you need a different Dr.! The endo should not make you worse. I tried all the stomach meds you can name. Only one to work is Protonix 40mg. I take it am and pm.

Karen i tried to post back to you and your box is full at 11pm. Keep posting and hope your stomach feels better.

Karen-I had a stomach ulcer many years ago.
The dr. perscribed tagament. It worked really well.
after about 8 months it got better. I remember they
also told me not to drink milk.

Lately though, I've been wondering if I might have
another one. Trying to ignore it for now. But I've
been taking tons of advil for many years (those are
different than nsaids right?)

Anyway, I hope you get to feeling better soon. You've
been going through alot lately.

Endoscopies certainly aren't supposed to work that way---make you feel worse, I mean. I have had GERD (gastro esophageal relux disease and probably ulcers as well) for years but I had few symptoms and it rarely bothered me. Since he did the biopsies of my esophagus, I have had symptoms up the ying yang. This does NOT mean the same thing will happen to you. Maybe it is even a coincidence but that is really stretching the imagination.

I hear ya! I am a very unhappy camper and I want him to fix whatever it was he broke. I tried Protonix but it made me quite nauseous. I have taken Prilosec in the past and it worked but who has for each and every pill?

Advil is indeed a member of the NSAID family. Tylenol is one of the few stomach safe drugs but since it isn't an anti inflammatory, it doesn't do us RA people much good.

This stomach problem can be a very serious thing to treat and deal with.I have had 3 endoscopies.I take 40 mg. of protonix.I never had a bad exserience from an endoscopy.I have even had the dreaded colonoscopy.The worst part of that was drinking all that stuff the day befor surgery.It was AWFUL!!!I feel so bad for us all.Achy body,joints and now burning guts.

We are some tough cookies!

WELL, SAW THE GASTRO DR TODAY.  SCHEDULED FOR COLONOSCOPY (SP) AND ENDOSCOPY (SP) IN THREE WEEKS IN AN OUTPATIENT PROCEDURE.  STOMACH IS BURNING ALL THE TIME, WHETHER EATING OR NOT EATING.   DUE TO HEART VALVE DAMAGE, HAVE TO TAKE ANTIBIOTICS TO AVOID HEART INFECTION AND STILL HAVE TO GO TO ENDOCRINE DR TO CHECK ON ADREANAL INSUFFICIENCY, ADDISON'S DISEASE.  OH BROTHER.....IT NEVER ENDS.  ONE MORE, HAVE OPTOMOLOGIST APPT TO CHECKS EYES, DR SAYS POSSIBLE IRITIS...????  OF COURSE, HAVE TO SWEEZE RHEUMY IN THERE AT SOME POINT AND OF COURSE OVERDUE ON MY BLOOD WORK.......THANK'S ALOT 'ARTHUR.'
  Ask your GP for samples of Prilosec. My GP gives me samples all the time. My insurance will only cover a 90 day supply(of any of them), once in my lifetime. Can ya believe that one! Thats why my GP gives them to me. Sometimes the GP's get coupons from the drug companys. Something to investigate. I find that Protonix is the best for me. I'm right now taking Previcid,only because my GP has no Protonix. But we are all different when it comes to meds. Somethings work for some and not for others. Good luck to you and Karen! Karen.....I was taking Prilosec along with everything else but stomache still burned - swtiched to Prevacid(which the doc said is like 2 Prilosec) and burning has stopped. FYI

My husband says most people have A medical doctor...but I have a medical TEAM!!

TOOK 3 DAYS BUT THE GASTRO DR FINALLY GAVE ME SOME SAMPLES OF PREVACID.  A LITTLE BETTER BUT NOT MUCH.  HAD SUCH BURNING PAIN FRIDAY, MISSED MY ENDOCRINE DR APPT AND HAD TO RESCHEDULE FOR MONDAY DUE TO MAIN FROM ULCER.  HAVING TO GO TO ENDOCRINE DR CAUSE CORTISOL IS WAY TOO LOW.  ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?  RA RELATED???

IF IT'S NOT ONE THING IT'S SOMETHING ELSE.  VERY DISCOURAGED.
