Pain meds w/acetaminophen | Arthritis Information

Does anyone else not respond well to pain meds w/acetaminophen in them?

I know one thing about my pain and that is...

1- Aleve does not help with my RA pain nor problems, never did.

2- acetaminophen does not help my RA either. As evident by taking stupid lortabs & darvocet.

Hi Joonie,

Aleve and acetaminophen and ibuprofen dont even come close to touching my pain.  The only thing that has worked for me was vicadin and when I ran out of that, it was vanilla vodka with OJ As far as I'm concerned, acetaminophen is just something the drug companies have to mix with narcotics (as in vicodin, lortab, percocet, etc) in order to prevent the DEA from scheduling their product as a schedule-II narcotic.

< =text/>_popupControl(); The acetominophen is *supposed* to make the narcotic work better.  Percocet is a schedule II with acetominophen in it.  I have to pick up my monthly script for that every month at the doc office.

Oxycontin and morphine have no acetominophen in them.  I don't think Fentanyl patches have acetominophen in them either.  Those are also extend relief pain meds.  You may be needing something like that right now until your RA is back under control.  Methadone is a great pain reliever with no acetominophen either.  Also has a half life of 96 hours.

vodka sounds good right about now. Does it come in another flavor other than vanilla? Maybe stawberry? Cherry? Peach?

Oh and OJ sounds good too. Humm.... Already took another muscle relaxer. So... no alkie for me.

When did percocet become schedule-II?  I could swear it used to be schedule-III like vicodin.  I haven't had to take any in years (luckily!!!).

I do not know... yes yes yes my dear, vodka comes in many many different flavors!!

What does "schedule I" or "schedule II" mean?

Vicodin works well for me for occasional pain.  When I have pain and swelling, I take one along with some ibuprophen and that helps a lot.  But during my first flare when my whole body was invovled and I was swelled up all over, the only thing that really worked was dilaudid.  I mean, 4 percocet barely took the edge off.

Schedule I = marijuana, heroin, other illegal stuff
Schedule II = the ADD/ADHD meds, strong pain relievers (plain hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, etc), cocaine (still legal as a topical anesthetic)... special prescribing restrictions (no refills, etc)
Schedule III - barbiturates, vicodin, etc (limited refills, etc)
Schedule IV - benzodiazapines (valium, xanax, etc), tylenol w/codeine
Schedule V - Available at the pharmacy counter in limited quantity (codeine cough syrup, lotiomil for diarrhea)

My tummy dose not like acteminaphin, however i can not take anything else. Ibuprophen makes my joints swell worse and i think gives me a rash if i remember right. I can not have pain stuff with sulfer in it. I can not breath if i take asprin. I think they make a vicoden with ibuprofin and they can maybe give you a mix with less tylonol in the pain medicine. All i am saying is they have options. What sort of trouble are you having with the meds?Vicoprofen = hydrocodone w/ibuprofen Thanks Jas [QUOTE=Linncn]Thanks Jas

Now the shots I had in my bootay yesterday... I call that pain relief!

I am thinking of it this way... if I am going to give into taking pain meds, I at least want a pain med that is going to do its job and not half-ass do its job. That is like having a flunky worker... I want to fire my pain meds right about now.

As the Donald would say ... YOU'RE FIRED!
