New, easier testing for H. Pylori | Arthritis Information

So I asked my Dr about getting tested for Helicobacter Pylori because if you
have it, even with no symptoms, and get rid of it, you can really improve
your RA. It turns out there's a new blood test that makes it super easy to test
for H Pylori infection. I get the results in 3 weeks.

PS, JasmineRain, because of the info you posted re: false positive syphillis
tests I also got tested for Antiphospholipid Syndrome.Well, be sure to let us know how it goes!  I was tested a few years back (via upper endoscopy - fun times!  not...GImpy. We do a lot of testing for it here and I'm surprised at how many
people have it. I was tested a few years ago. At least it is very treatable.
Modern medicine is so wonderful. Lorster, if I didn't have RA I wouldn't bother about it because I don't have
major gastro-intestinal issues, and eradicating your H Pylori infection can
make you more susceptible to asthma, but with RA getting rid of it can give
you dramatic improvement of your RA symptoms.

Ok, can someone fill me in?  I am not sure how helicobacter pyloric affects RA.  I know it is a factor in ulcers, etc, but is there a reason to be tested if I don't have stomach issues?  Is this related to leaky gut syndrome?  I'd appreciate it if someone can fill me in.  I would need some ammo if I were to request my doctor test me for this.

Thanks.

Snoopy, no one knows. I'm not sure but I THINK what happened is when H Pylori was big news some scientists wondered if perhaps it was the bacteria was why some people get gastro-intestinal damage from NSAIDS. Studies were done. No immediate connection to having H Pylori while taking NSAIDS increased gastro-intestinal damage was found, but it was discovered that getting rid of H Pylori in people with RA really helped their RA.

Leaky Gut Syndrome is a grey area of medical science that is not formally recognised, so no official correlation between H Pylori and leaky gut can be made, although there is certainly much speculation.

There's not really a huge body of information re: H Pylori and RA. If you do not have stomach issues, and you don't want to experiment with your own body like I'm considering doing,  I would just leave the H Pylori there.

So far I haven't found a lot of information about it. Here are a few studies:

Study showing eradication of H pylori improves long term prognosis of RA
Easier to read article outlining the same study

Study showing use of NSAIDS in people with H Pylori does not increase risk of gastro-intestinal damage
