neck symptom for RA? | Arthritis Information

I think I am totally paranoid about RA now. So from yesterday I got this neck "pain" (exacerbated after working out), if I don't move my neck I don't feel it. It's the same feeling as when you pulled a muscle on your shoulder or neck and it hurts when you turned your head. This is not RA symptom is it?

Considering that it appeard after a work out its likely a pulled or strained muscle.

Neck involvement with RA is at C1-C2.  You tend to feel those symptoms at the base of your skull.  It doesn't feel like muscle pulls (at least to me)

Use some heat to see if things loosen up

Yep... sounds like a strain.  Try a Thermacare heat wrap (no need for an electrical outlet) or a heating pad or one of those thingies with the dried buckwheat or beans inside that you can heat in the microwave and wrap around the back of your neck.

I have a special neck/shoulder heating pad that I absolutely love; it looks a bit like a scarf, and it really helps with neck/shoulder pain.

Also, try some ibuprofen or naproxen for a few days (assuming you are able to take either of those).  Take a couple of benadryls at night to help you relax and sleep.  If it doesn't clear up in a week, or it is really limiting your daily activities, see a physician.

Hi, I have a pain in my neck and the xrays showed osteo arthritis. I hope it is just a strain and will go away so. There are so many ways we can feel this RA though, so who the heck knows??? Good luck with this. Lynda
