Enbrel and flying | Arthritis Information

Hi there,
I'm new to this site and I have a question.  I've just accepted a job as a flight attendant.  I've been taking Enbrel and I'm concerned that flying so much may expose me to nasty infections.  Any suggestions on how to stay healthy on Enbrel and flying for a living?

Thanks so much,
KIMM
Hi Kimm, welcome to AI, you will find a lot of help and friends here, thats a tough one, ask your rheumy but as far as I know we can't take such things as immune boosters as it is our immune system that is the problem, perhaps vitamin C and garlic as I would imagine it will be colds/flu/viruses that will be your main enemies on a plane?  It will surely create discussion - all the best, hope that is of some help, hugs Janie. janiefx39389.2070486111

It may not be as much of a problem as you think.  I take Humira.  My wife is a kindergarten teacher and is exposed to all kinds of colds, etc.  Except for a couple of moderate colds, I haven't been sick at all the last few years.

Alan

PS: Welcome!

The absolute best way to prevent transmission of colds and flu is to practice immaculate hygiene.  Wash your hands whenever possible.  You may want to carry hand sanitizer onboard, if the airline does not provide it.  Don't touch your face after handling anything, until you've washed your hands.
