20/20 had on last night the church group that lost the lawsuit against them for protesting at Military funerals.  They are the ones who show up with signs, at funerals, saying our military deserve to die because of fags.  A few months back they had threaten to come to our town and protest at a military funeral, well alot of people got together here and we lined the roads from the funeral home to the church and from the church to the cemetary showing support to this fallen soldier and we were lucky the group of idiots, I will not call them what I really think I will be nice, did not show up.  I my not be crazy about this war but MG how can you do such a thing as these people do to the families of these fallen soldiers, how can you stand there screaming such obcienities to these families?? I know we have the freedom of speech but what about showing respect to the grieving family???  What do you guys think.. meme

More from the Church of "Jesus Loves Me but he Hates You".  Big membership.

Pip

the Phelps family is nuts..too much in-breedingFreedom of speech does not let you yell fire in a crowded theater and it should not let these people intrude on the private funeral of any person.

We have had several "protests" from this group in town.  It is scary, because they not only go after and intimidate the family they will "attack" people walking by or even people just working in the Church.

A few of our local Motorcycle Clubs have taken a protective roll for the fallen soldiers families.  I went to one with the presence of the Motorcycle clubs where they had "threatened" to be there, and I was scared.  It was very apparent because the news had done several articles on me and the fact that this was an uncle of one of my students last year, and he was killed in action.  I was thankful for the brute force that was there, and thankfully they stayed at the road side, and did not invade the Church parking lot or the grave site.

Yeah, I watched 20/20 and saw this.  The poor kids born into this group of people.  It was sad watching those young boys talking just like their parents.  They didn't even know what they were saying, just repeating it all.

I watched it and it was sickening.  The kids didn't even know what half the words meant that they were saying.  They were just repeating it verbatim.  My opinion is....I don't really care what your thoughts are, there is a time to be respectful to humans.  To spew this hatred at a funeral where someone lost their life fighting for their right to spew their hate is beyond words.

Phats

It's the same type of hatred that fueled the KKK for so many years.  They find an excuse for their hatred and right now it's taken this direction, next year it will be another hatred stance.  No amount of education helps when hatred runs so deep in a person's soul.  All any of us can do is support the group that the hate is directed at.  I'm so happy that some of you are helping.  Lindy < =text/>_popupControl();

We had the experience of this group coming to Milwaukee to protest the funeral of a young fallen soldier.  I can not put into words just how sickening this is.  I can not believe that other human beings treat other human beings in this manner.  I feel these people are not Christian at all.  I feel they are representatives of the devil himself clothing themselves in sheep’s clothing.

I did not see 20/20 so I do not know what the results of the lawsuit are.  But if these irreprehensible people should have to pay any monetary damages, maybe the money should go to Veteran’s groups.

The church has to pay 11 million dollars to this father of a fallen soldier and of  course they are appealing it.  they see no wrong in what they did.  Chill went up my spine when I watched those children talk, I know 20/20 was using it to punch up their story, but it makes you think are these going to be our next set of mass killers?  Such hatred of their own fellow man it frightens me.  memeThis "church" and their views are such an outrageous misrepresentation of who Jesus Christ is and why He came here.  It's little wonder their is animosity towards Christians when their are people like this who claim to be His followers. I didnt see 20/20 last night but, this sounds awful and yes,
it sure gives Christians a bad name.

It's time to make new laws against hate groups. All hate groups.
Thinkthinn39389.7258101852I think the actions of this group are despicable... but freedom of speech applies to everyone, no matter how distasteful their ideas may be.

I shudder to think what will happen if/when the government gets into the business of censorship

I'm sorry Jasmine, but I beg to differ.  Can you tell me why ADVERTISING is now considered protected under the First Amendment and this should be allowed to continue?

You can't yell fire in a crowded theatre - you shouldn't be able to harrass and intimidate people under the GUISE of Freedom of Speech.  These people are nothing but bullies going after the weak and defenseless with Hate Laws being not enforced.

Pip the PO'ed.

They have the right to their opinion and the right to say it, but barging in on a funeral?  I say no.  Their have been ordineces passed against protesting within a certain distance during a funeral in some towns here in MI.  I think that's a good thing.So....a question to all of you. A group like this that burns down an abortion
clinic....is that ok?I saw it on 20/20 they made me sick. The garbage that came out of their mouths and those kids.  Isn't that some form of child abuse? It was on our local tv news stations and was also front page news here in Baltimore where the trial was held.   Freedom of speech is one thing but have they no human decency?  For a "religious" order they have so much hate in their hearts.  Three of the leaders own children will have nothing to do with him.  They do not agree with his beliefs. I hope Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie sue them for copyright infringement for using the melody of We Are the World and putting in their own sick lyrics. midnitestich39389.9315162037 [QUOTE=lorster]So....a question to all of you. ????

That is not a free-speech issue... that is criminal destruction of property and possibly assault and/or homicide if anyone was injured or killed.
< =text/>_popupControl(); Is there some way to prosecute the people for a hate crime?  I mean they blatantly use the word "fag" (ugh I hate that word makes me want to just smack anyone that says it) in a hateful deragatory manner?  There has to be *something* they are doing that is criminal and not *just* civil so we can put these people in a cell and throw away the key.  And then get their kids and de-program these kids!!!

Yes, my first thought was the 'hate crimes' angle.  We need to protect ourselves from people like this - and more importantly - their children.  Can you imagine their future?

Pip

You have to see there is a very very fine line there.  They say that this is part of their religious beliefs.  In our own laws we can not prosecute someone for their beliefs, nor for freedom of speech.  The lawyers had to prvoe that this was neither religious beliefs nor freedom of speech that this was malicious behavior.  I am inclined to say that this religious group will win the appeal.  I feel they lost due to the outrage the public feels about what is going on.  Family Services will not step and take the children away due to the fact the parents are "teaching them their religious beliefs."  The only way you will see Family Services step in is if there is physical abuse, and mental abuse whould be hard to press for because of their religion.  We may not like what they say nor what they do but they are Americans and do have the freedom to practise what religion and are able to say what they want.   The only time government can step in on them is if they are breaking the law.  meme
