Hi everyone, not sure if you all remember me but my name is Cheryl (kitkat as nickname) I live in Texas and was DX in 2000..Well in 2005 I applied for SSI because i was a housewife and did not have enough credits to go for Disability.. Well I got a lawyer after they turned me down the first time.. Then they turned down the appeal, and then I went before a law judge in July. Took forever for them to set that date. At any rate last week I got a letter from SSI and it says "fully Favorable"!!!! I was so pumped!! I needed this terribley too. I just wanted you all to know the good news!! Also i am on a study drug right now..In december will be my 2 year mark and I will be on it til it gets FDA approval. And it is working really well!! I get 2 shots of it every two weeks. One on each side of the body. Now the weather still makes me flare but when the weather is stable i feel a lot better and am able to do more stuff too. At one point I was able to walk without my cane but then stress and the weather hit me hard so i had to go back to the cane. But it's at least better than it was. Right now it does not have a name just a number. But i hope it will help others who have severe RA like me. but I wanted you to know that way you don't lose hope, because this med is really working. And so far I have not hit the honeymoon period..Soooooo that is good too!! Also i have started the Atkins diet and have lost 12 lbs already and I love it!! Need to get this weight off my joints...Well i will close now..good to meet you all, old friends and new ...hugs Cheryl~Kit~

Dear Kit, congratulations for hanging in there to get your medication. What a long process it was for you. We do need to stick up for ourselves. I'm so glad to hear good news on this board and that you are taking off weight. I'll look up the atkins diet in the computer. That is such a hard thing to do! and keeping it off is harder. Please, keep me informed. LyndaCongrats Kit!! I know how hard it is to get SSI going. Good job sticking in there.  Great news, Cheryl!!  Congratulations!Glad to hear all this news, Kit!!!

And thank you for being willing to take a study med. that might be helpful for many of us at some time in the future. These drugs can be so frightening and I think we sometimes forget that someone has to test them in trials to finally get them approved.

I hope you continue to feel better. Hugs, Nini

That  IS great news, kitkat! I am on SSI too, as I am 3 work credits shy of SSDI. I too, am a "homemaker" if you can call me that.

Glad you FINALLY got it! Dear Dotty, I feel so bad for you with your knee and all of those stairs. Can't you get some relief from the pain/swelling? You must have a terrible time just moving around for daily stuff, moving will be big. I hope you have help. (can you get someone to come in?) me
