Can you take methotrexate when you have a cold?

I was recently at the hospital having a chest x-ray, etc. to prepare for taking mtx.  The hospital is quite a breeding ground for colds, etc.

I'm a little stuffy.

I planned on Wednesday as my first day.  Scared as I am, I'd like to get started.

Dotty

Thanks for all your help.

Some people have been told yes, go ahead with the mtx when u have a cold...some have been told no.  Might be best to ask your doctor what he/she thinks.

I've been taking mtx for over 15 years now and have never stopped taking it when I've had a cold and I've never had any problems.

forgot to say... good luck with the mtx, Dotty...hope it works well for you!Good luck Dotty - hope you shake that cold quickly!Definitely check with your doctor on that one, hon.

I was told NO to stop taking Metho or any biologicals if you are ill cause they lower you immune system.  If you continue with it when you are ill you could get worse you should contact your doc so he can get you some antibiotics to help you out.

take care i hope that you start to feel better soon.

Antibiotics do nothing for a cold.  Colds and flu are caused by viruses.  Overuse of antibiotics leads to antibiotic-resistant microbes.
okay if im wrong about the antibiotics i appologize but taking the metho while you are ill is not such a good idea but if you are not feeling to hot maybe you should contact your doc.

Dotti can'r ay anything that hasn't been said.  Ask your doc

I asked my doctor the very same question for future reference and he said to stop MTX ONLY if I have a sinus infection or a severe infection of another type.  Having said that, I still think you need to ask your doctor.  Only he/she knows your file and personal medical history.
