What food make you flare | Arthritis Information

Hi there everyone its been awhile bit I was just wondering what foods do you try and not to eat or drink that make you flare.  For me its Coffee i LOVE LOVE coffee and cant have it ITS torture i tell ya.Alcohol OMG, really coffee! ya just never know. I avoid the nightshade family, tomatoes, bell peppers, potatoes (I love them all). I have had flares after eating them. LyndaDairy, fast food (bad fats).

Pizza from Jets Pizza make me flare, at least it did the last few times that i ate Jets Pizza. I think maybe it is the oil used in the dough and for cooking, probably a polyunsaturated fat which "they" say RAers should totally avoid (polyunsaturated fats).

LEV

none

I haven't found that diet affects RA at all.  Even Jets, Lev.  Is that a natioanl chain?  I thought it was just around here.

edited to add that it doesn't affext RA FOR ME.

Linncn39390.7174884259 They say diet really affects Gout, processed meat especially, but I've never associated it with my flares of gout. Now i eat potatoes and pizza all the time. I don't flare all the time. This is just me. But i have an on again off again problem with orange juice. I totally won't touch while i am flaring. It made me vomit and my sweat was pure sticky. And i have had this problem before several years ago. So odd. I think i will stay away from it all together. Or else it just made me swell and my sweat felt sticky cause my fingers were swollen. But odd.

Potatoes....and Oh I love homemade potatoe soup! Tomatoes, potpies and the like. Also some pizza's, some sauces like spagetti sauce or lasagna sauces if really spicey. Generic potatoe chips ( YUCK!) Cerain icecreams.

I really do have to try to keep to a bland,no thrills diet. Special cakes and such, forget it, only once in awhile can I eat them. Keep in mind though I had severe food allergies as a child. Grew up on chicken noodle soup, bread, and veggies. I also have IBS so I have to be careful for that as well, oh, and for the ulcer history......chocolate can also make me flare.........yuck huh?

I have not noticed any connection between diet and flares for me.  Are there common food items that can be responsible?  Do people keep a food diary, to keep track of this kind of thing?  Never occurred to me to pay attention to what I eat for this reason...

I have not noticed anything, causing a flare, but some things upset my tummy more than others.

one thing I can tell you that made me flare alllll last week, started with pains in hips, shoulders, neck, lower back, fingers and hands, this flare was a flare from hell.           All week we have been having storm warnings re hurricane NOEL, well he hit here big time yesterday, high winds, rain and lots of damage, not as bad as Juan in 2003, but had lots of power outages.             As the day wore on after he passed through I began to feel a lot better, in fact, as I write this is the first time in a week that I am not in pain.  My husband and I agree that he could see the change in me as well.  I am convinced that it is a contributing factor causing such pain.

Farewell to Noel, hope he causes no more problems    Amen

rose
Rose, it seems that almost everyone here is effected by the weather.  The question is, is their anyone besides me who is NOT effected by it??

Hi, I keep a Journal.

I write down EVERY thing I eat everyday. The vitamins, the fosomax (just took it and am waiting for 4:40 to have my coffee!), when I take my mtx, et. My memory is sorta scary sometimes , so it helps me to write each day in a 'spiral, lined report binder' how I feel, wht I need to do that day, what pills I've already taken. (Walmart sells them for 10Cents before school starts). My husband makes me a calendar every month off of the computer to write on. I keep the binders from month to month so I know how I'm progressing with beating this disease, if I'm able to walk the beach, what pains I have, etc. Lynda

Me too!!!! why is that???? I cant even drink 2 beers now without my body feeling inflamed. And the next day I feel like I've been hit by a truck!!

i flare after I eat steak, and if i drink hard liqure (sp?)....I also notice that I flare a bit if I drink a lot of pop.

When my disease was active I noticed about 12 hours after eating Pizza I was worse. I narrowed it down to wheat. When I deleted wheat products from my diet I was more stable. I replaced products with wheat with spelt or rice products. Since I have no disease activity right now I can eat wheat, like a pizza once in awhile or wheat bread if I'm eating in a restaurant. But I consume refined foods much less often now as a rule.

higgy39391.4267013889Hi, interesting about pizza. I LOOOve pizza, pepperoni is my favorite! But, after eating pizza (the next day) I'd feel awful, gain weight from the 'salt' and thought it was the tomato paste. Interesting about the wheat. I don't eat a lot of wheat bread, but I could get off of it completely and see????? I do like carbohydrates of all kinds.  I'll see what reaction I have. Lynda
