arthoscopic knee surgery | Arthritis Information

I have an arthoscopic knee surgery scheduled for Wed. I am very afraid of any and all surgery. But I also know I will survive!

I know this is just a minor surgery and that it won't really fix my knee problems. But I think 51 is a bit young for TKR - especally since I don't have enough boney mass to repeat the surgery. Therefore I'm putting it off until either I can't stand it any more or I'm pretty sure I won't outlive it.

This surgery is a stop gap... Have any of you had it done? Was it worth the risk? I'm thinking of cancelling.. Please talk to me, I could use an opinion from those who really understand!

I had it done on my shoulder...didn't feel a thing...they give you  good drugs...afterwards  I had a sore throat...I went back for my 3 day check up and my throat was hurting worse than my shoulder...ended up having tonsilitis from the procedure.

I had knee surgery several years ago.It hurt for awhile but once I recovered I felt great.Knee very seldom hurts and nothing compaired to what it did before surgery.Just be sure to take it easy and use yor crutches.I hope you have someone to help you out.

Good luck! Sheila

Thanks for answering me.

I'll be stuck in a wheelchair until I can get about on my own power due to ruined elbows, wrists, and thumb joints. No point in setting off 2 arms to try to fix a knee.

My husband Vic will look after me. As soon as the ortho OK's it I'll be back in my swimming pool working on walking at a much reduced weight.

Glad your arthoscopics went well and actually helped.

Maybe mine will too. I am so tired of my knee locking when I try to straighten it. Does it only when I'm NOT bearing weight - like it wakes me up half a dozen times at night when I roll over in bed.

You were both so right. Anticipation was far worse than the actual surgery. I've had surprisingly minor pain...Already able to bend and straighten my knee. Thanks for your support!

I have a lot of work to do to get my Quad back in shape. I didn't realise how much muscle strength I'd lost in avoiding the 'lockup' situation.Marian, I'm sorry it took me so long to post, but I'm SO GLAD everything went well for you! That must have been so aggravating having your knee lock up on you like that...glad THAT'S over!
