Probiotics Talk: Kefir Korner | Arthritis Information

I was just reading that Kefir works with soy or rice milk as well as cow milk---I didn't know this! That's great news for people who want probiotics but are lactose intolerant (unlike me: I am just lactose indifferent). Miso and sauerkraut are great, but I worry about their high salt content.

For anyone using Kefir, JustSayNoeMore, I wonder do you make your own Kefir at home? I want to, but I am having trouble obtaining the traditional Kefir grains. I guess I could just pay for some (if I could find some), but that seems so against the spirit of Kefir. What do you do?
I simplified _things_ and purchased mine...

Kefir Grains Source.

After nearly three years I consider it mine! Thanks Happ...I think that's what I will have to do as I live in Vancouver and I've already contacted the Vancouver people on that page (with no luck so far).

GoGo, I too buy mine.  I am just glad it's becoming mainstream and being carried in the grocery stores so I don't have to seek out a natural health food store like a drug addict looking to buy a fix :)  I drink it plain, straight.  I haven't even bothered with the flavored ones because I want it nice and clean.

I have stopped all soy (wasn't doing that much anyway), and have gone to whey-based products.

I started juicing a few years ago because I was having problems swallowing and RA does affect the throat.  Once you get going, it's easy, but getting set up and in the groove takes discipline.  I have a Magic Bullet my SIL gave me two years ago, and if you keep it out on the counter, wash it up after you are finished juicing instead of leaving it for later to clean up, the juices, well, start to flow :)

JSNM, I thought the commerical brands weren't as probiotic loaded. I admit i haven't really looked at them.

Have you ever made your own kefir?
No, but I did sleep at a Quality Inn last night :)  GoGo...
