Mr Pred strikes again | Arthritis Information

I had glaucoma surgery last Tuesday. This was a follow-up to a surgery I
had 10 years ago. I had asked about the implications of the pred on the
surgery. Felt ok with everything that I was told. I am really ok & the surgery
was a success. However, it almost worked too well. So the recovery is going
to be longer. I went into the dr today & he said it is most likely the pred... it
effects the connective tissue, makes i like butter he said. So here I am... all
right, this wasn't a very good exp;anation, but it really was meant to be
more of a rant than anything, so I guess it is good enough for that, right?

ok, get rowing! The whip is really cracking here!

pgr555,  You keep those black eyepatches on while on whip-cracking duty!  That'll scare the bejabbers out of shirkers.

It's better to have the surgery work almost too well than almost well enough!  Hang in there.

So glad it went well and hope you are back to normal very soon. I must say, having our connective tissue turning to butter is a bit of a worry isn't it??!! Still, I have stopped being surprised by anything Pred throws at us anymore

You've been so kind to me here. Sorry I didn't realize ahead of time you were to have eye surgery. (Haven't been reading boards lately.) I'd have certainly offered good wishes and support! So glad this is all behind you now.

Hope the next few days are better for you.

My eye pressure went up on Prednisone and it hasn't gone down.  I had the lazer surgery for glaucoma 10 years ago too.  The pressure hasn't gone down and now I have another bottle of drops.  I still had to use two differnent kinds of drops after the first surgery.

Some people don't have to use the drops after the surgery, I was not one of them.

I am still inflamed, and I wonder if and when this goes away, I wonder if the pressure will go down.   As it looks now, I will be doing the surgery again in a year or so according to my doctor.  He says we will keep the pressure down as well as we can with medicine first.

Mary, I had a tribeculectomy 10 years ago... not laser, actual drains put
in. Drops had not worked for me previously. My pressures were normal
after that. In 1 way the pred was lucky for me. I had not had my pressure
measured in a while but went in for baseline when I started on pred.
Pressure was normal. Went in 3 weeks later for full exam and pressure in
1 eye was 22. Had me come back 2 weeks later and it as 33. He
determined it was NOT Pred... was 1 eye... pred would be bilateral. Drain
had scarred over. This is mot uncommon after 10 years. This surgery was
to re-open that drain. Seems to have worked. Will know more in a few
weeks.

Without the pred I would not have had the testing done then!

I have heard pred induced glaucoma does improve after going off pred.
hope it does for you
