Not necessarily arthritis related | Arthritis Information

We as a group have come to enjoy discussions totally unrelated to arthritis or even health related issues. In an effort to not over crowd the RA section of this message board we have decided to steer some of that converstaion into a new area of the board that we have decided to dedicate to social discussions.

Please join in and post topics in this area. Anything listed in other sections of the forum that has an "OT" (Off Topic) posted in front of the subject line is more than welcome in this area.

Thanks to all that are using this area of the board for OT subject. I think it's slowly starting to catch on. Hopefully as more members decide to post their OT threads here instead of the RA section of the board we'll see more and more members stopping here for their daily chats and OT threads that so many of us enjoy.

Hey Lovie, should we drag the daily chat over here too?

I think that's a great idea Katie. Ideally anything and everything with an OT subject could easily be put in this section and it would cut down dramatically on some of the clutter on the RA section.

I don't see what's so difficult about posting things that are not RA related in a different section of the board. I've been a member here a long time but I've never seen anything quite like this. There is so much fussing and fighting and I can't even figure out what they are fighting about. I'll admit I've only scanned a fraction of the threads that contain the fighting because frankly it's getting a little old. There may be a bigger problem here that I am not aware of.

If we could just get those that are honestly opposed to the fighting on the OT threads to begin starting their topics here instead of there it would go a long way toward cutting some of the clutter on that section. Eventually it will catch on. The idea of putting OT beside threads not involving RA didn't take off over night. It took time but it did happen.

I'm really amazed when I see topics posted like "Personal Attacks? Why?" and it goes on for 5, 6 or 7 pages with some brutal attacks. It's almost as if the people raising these questions want to start an argument just to appear opposed to it. Does it make sense? Not to me.

I've pretty much stopped posting there; at least on the OT threads anyway. The majority of the OT threads are rarely even discussions I want to be involved in. I'll admit it's difficult not to jump in and yell "STOP IT" or "You're acting like idiots" but that only adds fuel to a fire and I'm not interested in doing that.

If you also are interested in being part of the solution not the problem please join me in trying to get things into an orginized fashion here. This is a community that governs itself. I for one am all for trying to make it work for all.

I am new to AI and as a newbi probably should keep my opinions to myself, however in response to your question, there is much in the world that does not make sense including deliberate provication and contentiousness in the name of free speech.

The advice to stay away from OT posts that offend or irritate is timely, but I have noticed that the irritation from one topic often spills over into other topics, whether OT or not.

I find it difficult to be just a lurker, but I am wondering if I have anything of use, let alone of value, to add to any discussion, OT or not.
