I took my first dose of methotrexate last night. Four pills with no side effects.
I think I'm on the right track. I saw my first RD April 30th. Ive been taking prednisone, 5milligrams, since June 27th.
I changed RD'S thinking this was not such a good course of action.
I saw the new one on November 1st. I had to wait over 2 months for an appointment. I like her and feel I am finally doing something to combat this disease.
I have a question. Since I've felt well with prednisone and am continuing to take it at least for now how will I know if the methotrexate is working?
She also prescribed fosamax which makes me think she is through and competent.

Hi Dotty , glad you feel good about your new RD and yes I stayed on prednisone while waiting for my other meds to "kick in". I also was put on Fosomax with D after about 3 months . Now I am off both and only use the prednisone for a max of 4 days when I am flaring . This system seems to work for me . Good luck and I hope you continue to improve!I can't comment on the prednisone but I wanted to tell you I'm really happy you're doing well with the MTX so far. The first time is the scariest and sometimes the worst, so you're doing great! It's a miracle drug for some of us and I hope it works well for you too with no side effects.
Hii Dotty...glad you took your mtx without any problems!
As far as how you'll know if the mtx is working while on prednisone...well...eventually you'll want to stop the prednisone. So while slowly going off the prednisone, you may notice some stiffness and soreness etc. If that happens, your doctor will probably add more mtx to see if that helps. That's how I did it anyway. But of course, this was just my experience...your doctor will let you know what he/she thinks is best.
