Ok weird things happening with the old taste buds.  Things that I really like the taste of are tasting funny to me lately.  Milk is tasting funny lately and I have not had a bowl of cereal (usually my midnite snack choice) because I can not stand the taste of milk anymore.  It just tastes funny to me.  Tried to have some Shells n Cheese tonight (love the stuff a main pred craving for me) and it tasted funny!  Last night…the French Onion Dip tasted funny to me but did not taste funny to anyone else.  What in the world is going on?  This has just recently started and the only thing I can think of that would be causing this is the pred or the Remicade.  Anyone else have funky things go on with their taste buds while on Remicade?  Or am I just being my usual strange self?

What does it taste LIKE? And do you still have your tonsils? < =text/>_popupControl();

Yes I still have my tonsils.  It doesn’t taste like anything really.  Things just taste “off” is the only way I can explain it.  What in the heck does this have to do with my tonsils and whether or not I have them?

Tell me if this is right.  My taste buds seem muted...like if there isn't a lot of flavor...than it doesn't taste like anything.  Also, my mom says when she first started quiting smoking...her taste buds were like that.  She asked if I had been secretly smoking...yep...picked it up in the last two months.  LOL!

Having things removed from your mouth or throat can throw your taste buds off. Specifically, the way you recieve the taste. The most common cause is a lack of tonsils. Weird, but true. Here's a couple articles about dairy foods tasting different. And other foods as well. And yes, some meds can affect taste. The biggest thing to watch out for, is that it corrects itself. If it doesn't, you need to have your PCP help you find out why. There can be so many reasons.

Some reasons Dairy Tastes Bad:

Ways to make things taste better:

Also, chronic dry mouth can affect your taste.

Oh what I wouldn't give for "muted" taste buds, please, please,please!  Liz, wish I could help but my taste buds are on overtime.  Nothing tastes off or muted, everything taste goods even stuff I've never cared for before. Lindy < =text/>_popupControl();

Very interesting on the Mayo Clinic site that they list Chemotherapy as a related issue.  Guess what mtx and Remicade basically are?  CHEMOTHERAPY!!!!  Sigh.  I don’t have constant dry mouth.  The Lyrica does give me dry mouth but a couple of Biotene sprays and I am fine.  Well, guess my question is answered!  I will contact PCP and see what I can do.

Shoot...I was hoping it was all in my head...thanks for asking...now I know!

< =text/>_popupControl(); Something very strange...I used to *hate* cucumbers.  I couldn't even stand the smell of them.  Now, I love them!!!

I love cucumbers...I even have a cucumber sauce that I learned how to make from the Greeks in Germany!

My RD tells me to drink Coke. This is supposed to get rid of the funky
taste.

Is it like a metallic taste? I have had some meds (can't remember what med) make stuff taste metallic. Have you every drank Orange Juice after brushing your teeth? Is it kind of off like that?

Just curious. Doing my rendention of the tv show "House" LOL.

Does chewing gum or hard candy help?

before assuming its the med you really should rule out infection.  the most common problems or taste issues are sinus or dental infections and both of those can by symptomless until the infection takes on a strong hold
