tomato madness | Arthritis Information

I've got a thing about tomatoes,.... apparently!   They're supposed not to be good for anyone with rheumatoid arthritis, but I find it really hard to believe.
For one thing, is there any evidence to suggest that Italians suffer more than anyone else in the world when it comes to RA???  I've never heard or read anything of the sort.
Also there's a lot of benefit to be gained from the humble tomato, least of all its pretty tasty.
Anyway, we've been eating rather a lot of toms recently and my inflammation is a bit hit and miss at the moment.
So, what I'm going to do is to cut out tomatoes completely from my diet for one month to see if it really does make a difference.
I've got to find this out for myself.
Any views on the tomato appreciated.
By the way, there's even a webset dedicated to people who hate tomatoes.... very strange.

A bientot, Anna
I'm Italian and love tomato sauces. I could eat it everyday, however I have noticed a bit more pain and swelling when I do, so I limit how often I eat it and how much. It's hard, cuz I like it more than chocolate.... < =text/>_popupControl(); I am Italian and I don't think I suffer more lol.  Nightshades (which is what tomatoes are) can increase swelling and inflammation.  But if it is not really bothering you then go ahead and eat tomatoes!!

Fresh, raw tomatoes are one of my favorites.  I will neer give them up!!!

I love tomatoes too!!! Especially fried green tomatoes!!!!

I love those too!!!Yummy!!!

I'm not Italian but I make my own sauces from fresh plum tomatoes.  I love tomatoes but they don't make me flare up.  The only time I couldn't eat tomatoes was when I was pregnant for Rachel.  Just the mnetion of them and I would run for the bathroom.!!!

I am afraid to do an elimination test, cause I don't really want to know the answer.  I have had to give up a lot and I just could not deal with not eating them.

But I sure am interested in hearing the results of your "trial."

Aw, man, fried green tomatoes. *drool*  They used to have them at Black Eyed Pea and they traded them for fried pickles.... sooooo not the same!!

I haven't noticed one way or the other if they make me feel any worse. I'm interested to know how the experiment goes though. Keep us posted, Anna!

PS - Now accepting fried green tomato donations. You cook 'em, I'll eat 'em!

Fried green tomatoes, country ham and mashed potatoes - my favorite meal.

I couldn't and won't live without tomatoes!  Foods never seemed to be a problem with inflammation and pain, thankfully.  Lindy

I love and eat tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant without noticing any adverse effects.
Fresh, raw tomatoes are one of my favorites.  I will neer give them up!!!
