Anyone have jaw pain? | Arthritis Information

The right side of my jaw has been hurting on and off for a while now. It sometimes radiates up to my ear but definitely not an ear infection. Just wondering if it's RA related. Anyone have experience w/this? Thanks.I had jaw involvement once.  Couldn't hardly open my mouth.  It was right at the hinge.  That where your's hurts?

< =text/>_popupControl(); I don't have jaw pain but know people that do.  Do you have any problems with your neck at all?  Sometimes neck problems can cause jaw pain.  Do you have any TMJ problems?  Might want to make an appt. with your dentist and get that checked out.  Do you grind your teeth at night when you are sleeping?

It can just be so many things and I really think that calling your doc might be the right thing to do.

Yeah it seems to be right at the hinge. It's a dull ache, not a stabbing pain. ANyway, I guess I should have mentioned - I have MASSIVE dental anxiety. I swear I'd go through childbirth 10 times again rather than make a dentist appt! I guess I know I have to though....

Honey,

I used to have dental anxiety too.  That was until I had a tissue graft, bone graft, and dental implant.  I think I could go through anything now.

I to also get jaw pain it get pretty bad at times where it gives me a headache.  Can't say I have, Honey. Hope you get to feeling better soon though!
I had jaw involvement once.  Couldn't hardly open my mouth.  It was right at the hinge.  That where your's hurts?
Same here this past week.
i had some jaw pain right before i started the steroids again and it was more when i bit down, and i felt like i wasnt closing my teeth down but i really was.  it was so strange.  it hurt in a dull way unless i was biting or chewing...thats how i knew i really needed to take the prednisone despite how much i hate it.  the pain was going to places i had never had it before

My jaws were amongst the first areas to be painful, along with hands, wrists.  I've had TMJ years ago where my jaw locked, this is different, it hurts all day

I took a Naprosyn (finally) yesterday and "POOF" the pain went away which leads me to believe that it's RA related and not a cavity. I've had cavity pain before and dthis is definitely not it. Weird. ANyway, we'll see how it is today as the day wears on. Thanks all.

 I have jaw involvement too.

just dull aching, difficulty in opening it.. and I cant talk more than a few sentences without resting.. cant read alound like I used to or sing..

boy can I tell the difference between dental pain and jaw pain..  ouch.. give me the jaw problems any time.

Hopefully that's all it was... painful, but at least a cavity is fixable.  :/

When I was having that all over pain and stiffness that sometimes signifies the onset of RA, both sides of my jaw were hurting.  I remember sitting down to dinner one night and I could barely even open my mouth to eat.  Since then it's been fine, but I suspect if I get "flares" that area will probably be affected.

Put me down for the jaw-involvment.  Not too bad on a daily basis, but once during a flare I could barely open my mouth.

Hello,

In the last week I have had the jaw pain at the right hinge.  When i wake up in the morning it takes at least an hour for me to get my teeth to align.  Pretty painful.

Max.

Honey, chances are it's not your teeth if you have an AI disease.  I myself and others here have complained of jaw pain very much like yours from time to time.  You've described my occasional symptoms exactly and I have no dental problems, just(?) AI disease and cervical spine problems.  I'll bet it's not your teeth at all.

I have in the past.  But it was OA not RA.  Basically ate away the joint.  I didn't know that at the time.  It's much better now that they replaced the joint and bones with part of a rib bone.

I only get jaw pain once in awhile now.  Which is fine with me compared to years ago.

Good luck.  I hope it isn't your jaw.

When i first started getting sick, a little over a year before diagnosed, the very first symptom i had was what the doctor said was TMJ a swelling of the jaw and told me to see the dentist.

I went to him, the swelling was gone and he said i don't have TMJ.   It then came back and he said he didn't know what was going on with my jaw.

I also had swelling in the cheek bone areas that caused pressure on nerves in my teeth and had to have root canals done.  I still get the pressure but no more pain that made me want to kill myself.  That was the worst head pain ever.

I still get the jaw swelling, i get it up to my ears and still just below the cheek.  Not sure why, but it still happens.  When i tried to tell my rhummy about it she just said "hmmmm".

I have tmj, i have a mouth guard that i wear at night and when i am focusing on stuff during the day.......it really helps. before i got it i coudnt open my mouth all the way to bite sandwiches........now i can..it still hurts sometimes though especially when i chew gum and other things like itI have to be careful not to open my mouth really wide when I yawn because that can set off TMJ problems. I think it is RA caused (started at a young age) rather than OA. Like rver my teeth do not alighn correctly for a little while each morning.
