Hello, my husband and I are wanting to start a family.  I have stopped taking methotrexate and am still talking celebrex for the pain.  It has been almost two months and I am in constant pain and discomfort on a daily basis my knees and hands are in constant pain.  I am seeing my rhematologist this week do I go back on meds does anyone have any advice.  If so has anyone taken Hurmira?  I am concerned about the side effects?

Good luck on getting knocked up!

Good luck again with getting pregnant! If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. (That's the FUN part!!! Hahaha!)

Prednisone is usually considered safe during pregnancy.  Hopefully it will happen soon and you will get the wonderful pregnancy-induced remission!!

Oh - and have fun trying!!!!!!

I was taking celebrex when hubby & I decided to try for a son. Before that I was on Arava & prednisone. Rd told me Arava had to be outta my system for at least 6 months, I believe she said.

Anyways... I took the celebrex, until we were really sure and had a month picked out & all. Then I stopped taking the celebrex like 3 months before we were to try, and toughed it out with tylenol arthritis.

Then when I got preggo 4 months after trying. I asked my gyno to put me on prednisone to help me thru it, he did after my first trimester was over. The pred kept me from having morning stiffness, which if my morning stiffness was not helped I felt I would have laid in the bed all day and would have gained unneeded weight. I only gained like 30lbs throughout my pregnancy. I was quite active, which I would like to think taking the prednisone had something to do with it.

Anyways... good luck and keep us posted. The hardest part for me was to have my DH home when I was ovulating. He missed it 6 months in a row and I was getting so desperate. Our 3 year old DD had taken over vaccumming the carpet. I was 2 years into the RA and only on sulfasalzine, at least it was totally out of my system by the time I got pg and I went into remission pretty quickly, started feeling better within a few weeks. Good luck, there's nothing like bringing a child into your life.We had 1 bio. and just adopted a second.

I had a tough recovery and last trimester with some complicaitons.

I went off everything except a low dose of prednisone.

For some, pregnancy does equal remission. For me it did for a stint. For
others, pregnancy can be very challenging. It was for me as well.

Best wishes,

I can't say from experience on what to expect or what to do, but I did want to just say GOOD LUCK! Hopefully you will be successful in trying and that your RA goes into remission during that time, which I hear is wonderful.

We have been trying for awhile now with no success, we're hoping for a Christmas announcement.

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and taking 50ml enbrel injections.  I went off my medication for about 5 weeks and had terrible flare ups.  Now that I'm back on my medication, I feel great.  I will take it throughout my pregnancy for as long as I need it.  Hi and welcome and good luck trying and I hope you get a remission too!

Hi all, God Im so happy to find this forum!!! I'm trying to get pregnant and have been off all my meds  (MTX and Enbrel) for 3 months now and I'm really struggling.  I dont know where you are all based, I live in Ireland and some of the advice seems to vary - I had to give up everything and some people here are still on Enbrel.  Would it be worth talking to me specialist about possibly going back on it while TTC? I beginning to find it all v hard again.
Thanks!
Hi! I have just found this forum and am so happy about it. You and I have something in common. I stopped taking MTX a month ago and trying to get pregnant. I am still taking Enbrel, though. I commute between Germany and US. My doctors in Germany told me to stay off the MTX for as long as six months. I moved my Rheumatoid to the USA where my doctors are saying that 3 months are enough. In Italy and France it is 6 months. Are you having flares at all?  Good luck to all those trying to have babies.

I am also trying to get pregnate. I take 40mg Humira every other week. I have an appt. with Rhuemy on May 5, trying to find out what to do. I have heard (but not from my MD) that you can take other things for RA symptoms. I have also heard of many people going into remission while pregnate. Hopefully we'll both have that luck!!

Hi Elda,
I stopped MTX five weeks ago and having flares now. Are you on MTX still? My flares aren't so bad: I started having pain and swelling in my left foot a week ago. My doctor told me to increase the prednisone dosage to 20 mg for several days. I am taking less prednisone now but feel some pain and tenderness in my fingers. The pain is not too terrible as long as it doesn't get worse. Do you know how long we have to be off the Etanercept (biologicals)?
Thanks,
Simit
