How many AI diagnoses do you have? | Arthritis Information

Share

I was just reminded of an article I read where the researcher said if someone with an AI (autoimmune) disease lives long enough, they will "collect them all" since we are prone to get other AI diseases.

I'm just interested in how many AI diagnoses people have.  Would you mind posting....

My first diagnosis was 7 years ago and I have 2 of them: fibro and RA.

* Edited to say that rather than first diagnosis, the # of years since the major onset of symptoms makes more sense, since sometimes it can take years to get a diagnosis.

I thought a list might help! http://thyroid.about.com/library/autoquiz/blautoimmunelist.h tm

My first diagnosis was Endometriosis about 15 years ago.  My most recent is RA - diagnosed in August 2004.

Endometriosis
Hashimoto's
Rheumatoid Arthritis

DX May of '07.  Unifferentiated connective tissue disease, vasculitic neuropathy and suspected FM.  I'm hoping the UCT diseases don't show themselves as full-blown anything in the future, but I understand that's what often happens.  I didn't know we often "collect" these diseases.  Hmm.  I don't like the sound of that, but it's better to know these things than be caught by surprise.  I was diagnosed w/ RA in Janurary '03 and then in December '06 I was diagnosed w/ Fibro.  So far I only have the 2.  Hopefully it will stay that way.Fibro  November 2005
Sero negative ra February 2006
Sarcoidosis November 2007

Would probably be good if I posted the reference...

"Immune system disorders often cluster in families and within an individual, says Virginia Ladd, president of the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association. "Once you have one, you have others. Some patients say if you live long enough, you can collect them."

Endometriosis had a full hysterctomy by age of 40, Hypothyroidism since  the age of 38, ra and oa at the age of 44, Pa was probably at the age of 35 but wasn't diagnosed properly till the age of 46, Psoriasis  since childhood and Raynaud Syndrome too. meme

So far it's just RA for me, dx'd in April.  Future's looking brighter all the time!

I've noticed in people's signatures that many have more than one disease.  Does anyone ever only have one?

DXed JRA in 1984? ish? yes. 1984.

"re" DXed with RA after a 7 year remission (age 12-19)

Let’s see…I don’t know how to answer the first part of this post since I was diagnosed 15 years ago and it didn’t take me long to get my diagnosis.  We had really good docs at the time and I was diagnosed right off the bat.  Plus with my family history that helped to make diagnosis a little easier.  Over the past 15 years I have had ups and downs with times that I am like I am right now, and times that I have been in remission.  I hope that makes some sense?  I guess my first major onset was when I went to get diagnosed and then it has been up, down, and all around since then.

My other AI diseases are high blood pressure, asthma, fibro, I *had* endometriosis until I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago, and PCOS.

That’s enough and I hope that I don’t develop anything else!

Liz, is high blood pressure considered auto-immune?  I've never heard that, but if so, then add it to my list (16 years).RA dx sept 2005. High blood pressure (if is is auto-immune?) a few months after dx of ra. Had gestational diabetes when preggo with my 14 year old son but blood glucose has been fine since.

oh boy, let's see....

sero-neg. ra, fibro, and DDD about 3-4 years ago

sjogren's, raynaud's, peripheral neuropathy about 3 yrs ago

is endometriosis an auto-immune disease? I've had that for years and years and just had surgery for it and need more soon.

psorasis 1999

RA 2001

oh, and I forgot good old lupus, which I have had since ra dx44, Lupus, RA, Sjogren's, Raynaud's  So much fun...Janie. too many < =text/>_popupControl(); According to my PCP hypertension is auto immune.  I was kinda puzzled by that too.  I was thinking if asthma was AI as well.  If so I was dxd w/ asthma when i was 13 so that would have been '95?

Grammie,

I think your PCP was on PCP when they told you that hypertension is AI.  I have never heard that and can't imagine that is the case???

Need to clarify? This is a fairly extensive list of AI diseases.

I have 7 AI's, all, except for one, started in 2005.
Well is IBS included , 14 years ago? I have RA dx this year but have had a long time I do or did get some remissions. Fibro of the foot 9 years ago dx, head to toe fibro dx 7 years ago. Sjorgrens doc says probably. See specialist in January. I do see a crest issue. My blood sugar is on the rise. cholestoral is sky high. Fatty liver. vascular problems. Lung problems, barretts esophogus, unexplained scaring on lungs and kidneys, skin problems, starting some tangiagia. Well anti-ccp is 100. i am RF positive. sed rate while on pred for awhile was 43. Anti-ccp is a guide line for how sick you may become. Read today RF positive and noduals is an indicator you have sever RA as well as the younger you are at onset is also an indicator you have sever RA. If you ask me i would say i have had RA scince a teenager for sure and maybe as a child. I was a very sick child always had allergies or strep. Was considered the sickliest in the family and in an odd unlucky sort of way by all of my relatives, they always scratched there heads and wondered what was going on. Will let you know if I find a specialist that wants to put it all together. LOL started taking vitamin C gave me alot of energy and seems to be even slightly helping my skin, Dad said well maybe you just have scurvy

Hiatal Hernia - Age 40

Hypothyroid - Age 54

RA -Age 55

Endometriosis (had hystorectomy at 33)

RA, Fibro, Sjorgrens (secondary), asthma

I have irritable bowel syndrome, not inflammatory bowel disease, so I don't think that counts.

Diagnosed w/RA at 51 (2003).  RD thinks I had milder form of it for long time.  Once I went to RD I was diagnosed in 2 weeks.  All my numbers and symptoms were off the chart so he didn't have to work very hard to figure it out.

I'll just go with the itis's/auto-immune:

Adult Onset Still's Disease (diagnosed approx 12 yrs ago -- in all likelihood, I've had it 20+ yrs.

Osteo-arthritis

Degenerative Disk Disease

Spinal Stenosis

borderline hypothyroidism

possible lupus (not definite diagnosis yet)

would not allow fibro on my charts so I'm, still in denial about that one.

Ehler-Danlos syndrome

I have exceeded my three disease limit.

IslandWoman39403.6469560185

I'm confused.  I thought Osteoarthritis was a "wear and tear" condition, not autoimmune?

If I go by the list Jennee posted, I have the ones below.  I also notice that people are listing DDD which I have also but I didn't see it on the list.

Do you guys think it would be interesting to just post "everything" we have, not just the conditions that are autoimmune?  It would be interesting to see if other "non-autoimmune" conditions are common with people who have RA.  What do you think?

it is wear and tear -- but note I did say that I would include the itis's.

Islandwoman,

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear in my post.  I was referring to Osteoarthritis being on the list at the website Jennee posted.  It says it's autoimmune, but I've never heard that before.

I just had a conversation with my RD about this, and he said...the younger you are and if you already have an autoimmune...most likely it is autoimmune.  He said....look at the treatments we are giving you, and see if the pain has decreased.  Because mine has gotten so much worse and has added the inflamation markers (seen in a xray) across the middle of my back, and then across the ribs...he is betting that it is autoimmune.

My list:

Psoriasis at 7yrs; 1973

Endometriosis dx at 14yrs 1980

Allergic Rhinitis dx 10yrs 1976

Psoriatic arthritis March 2007

Interstitial Cystitis Feb. 2007

Osteoarthritis October 2007

Also, High Blood pressure, glaucoma, cateracts, DDD, and Gerds.

So that is all of me!

Shelly4139404.6975347222Is Reynaud's an AI disease? If so, I was diagnosed at 18, and at 39 was diagnosed with RA. Oh such is life....
