Surgery and Medication Question | Arthritis Information

I'm having surgery in 2 and a half weeks.  Do I need to stop MTX and Arava before surgery?  How far beforehand?  I've weaned off pred and I'm stopping Celebrex because it makes me bleed.  I'm thinking I'm gonna be a bit of a mess for a little while if I have to be off everything.  It might be a good thing, if I stop all my meds before my next lot of bloods my ESR should shoot up and maybe qualify me for enbrel

Anyway.  Any ideas of the drugs?

pammy. your doctor will determine which meds to stay on and which not to
take. it is so individual to each person.

Good morning!

I agree. This is definitely something your doc would need to determine.

What kind of surgery are you having?

< =text/>_popupControl(); You need to call your doc on this one.  They will determine what you can stay on and what you can't.  Rule of thumb for things like DMARDS and biologics is generally stop meds 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery to let your immune system do its job without being so supressed.  And of course there are bleeding issues with mtx and nsaids.

OK   I'll ask my GP tomorrow when I see him

Thanks guys

  I'm having a 'mid-urethral sling' procedure done
