Joint Subluxations | Arthritis Information

My jaw, left shoulder and both hips subluxate (partially dislocate).

Hips a LOT (and at will)

Shoulder & jaw not so much and without warning.

There doesn't tend to be much more pain when this happens (except when a hip pops out and you end up sprawled on the floor...) and I was wondering if it was in any way related to RA.

I can't find anything elsewhere, so I'm just wondering, do any of you get this?

(There's also a case of joints 'giving way' but I imagine this to be more common than the subluxations...)

I'm not sure...until now I thought sublaxation only had to do with spinal discs losing the padding in between. Yeah, I get it with my hips in particular. It's definitely RA related. I don't know if it's sublaxation but it sure happens to me. No, extra pain really but it doesn't feel that nice.  It's happened to me a few times with my hips. I didn't know that's what it was called, I just know it was freaky. Good thing I was next to my bed when it happened cuz' I fell back on the bed. Always on the left side and always when I am getting ready after a shower and put my leg up to dry it or put in pants. It's kind of freaky.

YOur right is not more painful...just sounds eerie to the casual listener.  Last time it happened I was sitting in a chair, and adjusted my position for my lower back....my son was sitting next to me and totally freaked out.  Yes, it is something that you know is not supposed to happen, but does, and yes mine is totally caused by PA, and all of the arthritis through my back.

Ive had this for years..since I was maybe 12..  never knew it was RA and no one ever takes it seriously. I will be walking along and  my hip will "pop out." in my case it  hurts like hell.. and I cant walk, or really stand for a few minutes til it "pops back"

We are watching my daughter for that very thing too Kathy.  That is what happens to her.  I think when mine first started popping out when I was a teenager...it probably hurt, but I think things are too lose now.  I can almost pop it out at will....not a good thing.

strengthening the hip and shoulder muscles will go a long way in preventing dislocations.  get a script for physical therapy

I try to do as much as I can, but PT seems to make it so I cannot walk.  Although it is in a laundry list of things that need repair.  I do as much as I can as far as strengthening.

shelly unfortnatly it may have been going on so long that it has to get worse before it gets better.

Formal pt will work to build up your weaker muscles. this will force alignment back towards good  neutral and away from the curently  stronger ones.  until the muscles are balanced the work to get them that way will hurt lie the dickins but it will be better for the hips and back to be in muscle balance

Question:  You with the joint subluxations:  Were you very flexible as a child and were are "amateur contortionist?"

If so, consider, Ehler-Danlos Syndrome.

My friend has Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos.

Having done a spot of research on her behalf, no way I have it - No flexibility whatsoever.

I have Ehlers-Danlos and RA. It's hard to tell which causes which problems, but the E-D sure makes the RA much worse. Unstable joints make them hard to hell and make iut easy to fall. Chech out the butyoudontlooksick.com site and forum for E-D.
