Another Welcome from me Korky.   Hellooooo Korky!! Sorry about the diagnosis, but glad you found this forum! The people here are great and are a wealth of knowledge so ask away.

Hi Korky...I also have PA, and psoriasis...as well as some varied other things.  I hope you find all of the support needed to make it through.  Has the RD decided on a treatment and what have you taken so far?  Keep us informed on how you are doing.

Just remember that with PA your joints as well as the tendons become inflamed (sausage fingers, etc.), so be patient and cautious on how you use the inflamed parts of your body.

Hi Korky and Welcome!

May you find great help here and some relief in the process too!

                WELCOME!!!!

Hey, Korky!

Welcome Korky.

Howdy and welcome to our little family.

Jay

Thank you all so much for such a lovely warm welcome! I am still waiting to see a rheumatologist (31st Dec) with regard to what treatment to start for the P.A. I have asked to see a new rheumy as I am not confident with the one I see about the fibro, he seemed to put everything down to FM even the sausage fingers! So my GP is sending me to a diff hospital becaus she is adamant PA is my biggest problem as far as pain is concerned and not all down to fibro.

So here is my first question lol - my right hand is very swollen with my pointer and middle finger looking like sausages, very painful to move it...typing with left hand ain't easy! so the question is is it better to rest it when it is like this or try to keep it moving? at the moment I am kind of alternating between using it and resting it, I also wear a splint on it at night as I have quite a bit of tendon involvement in my wrist...any suggestions would be gatefully received!!

hello and welcome!

sorry to hear about your new dx but i'm glad you found us...this site has a lot of wonderful people and information.

i do a combination of rest and movement, and ice for the swelling in my hands.

Korky, I do exactly what Jessica does.  I have some therapy clay that I play with every day for my fingers.  I do want to keep some strength.  Bracing the wrist will help at night especially if it goes numb.  I also do some heat, but not a lot.  Sorry...no quick fixes.  I am with you on the PA...it really stinks.  Hope you find someone who will agressively treat the PA.

Hi Korky! Welcome to the AI!

I have found I like heat on my hands rather than cold. Different strokes for different folks. Experiment and find what will make you feel best. I wrap the heating pad around my hands and it makes it feel better. I hope you get feeling better really soon!

take care

Hi Korky, and welcome.  I rotate between heat and cold, and use the braces at night.  And there are some days I love doing dishes.

Hi Korky and welcome to AI.  Sorry that you have to be here but glad you found us.  Feel free to ask anything that may come to mind, remember no question is a stupid question.  Someone is always around to answer any question you may have or even to just be there to listen if you need to vent.
