A large study has shown organically produced vegetables and milk have significantly more nutrition as well as higher concentrations of antioxidants. This article is a few weeks old but I didn't find out about it until I got the Dr Mercola newsletter today

Woohooo!!!!

I know most foods now taste like cardboard when I have the real thing to compare it to.  My daughter grew the best tomatoes this year.

Pip!39405.3719675926Most developed countries have certification boards for organic food. I know in Canada you have to grow food organically for 5 years on previously not organic soil in order to become certified. That's partially why organic food can be expensive---paying for those 5 years!

In the US the US Dept of Agriculture certifies organic food, and in Canada it's Canadian Organic Growers, so organic food is labelled.

That said, I often buy organically produced food that is not yet certified from the Farmer's Market, but i'm just taking their word for it.
The problem I've got with organic food, particularly in the UK, is a lot of it was coming from countries who had no system for certifying something was organic.    If a farmer said it was that was all that was needed.   There was an article a while ago in the UK press which said that most of it was actually rubbish, so I don't buy organic any more.
