Good Idea?? Not So Much... | Arthritis Information

Yesterday made 3 weeks since my last dose of mtx due to a sinus infection. During most of the three weeks I did not get a major increase of pain but I did get the exhaustion back. However, was curious to know if the lack of pain was due from me or the prednisone and anti-inflammatories? So on Tuesday I thought I would cut my anti-inflammatory med in half and stop the 5mg of prednisone (like i had been taking it before).

Well...it sure wasn't me (my body) doing better!! Wednesday I had all the flu like symptoms again. My hole body aching and all. Of course I began my reg doses Wednesday, but I have not recovered from my stupidity as of late.

Should I just up my dosage of prednisone for a few days? And when is it okay to resume my mtx? Do I need to wait for my sinus infection/cold to be totally gone 1st?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm in a great deal of discomfort.
BLessed whenI was on mtx anytime I had an infection I had to stay off it till the infection was gone.  Are you on anitbiotics for the sinus infection and has the dr checked you again to see if the sinus infection is gone??  Once your dr says the sinus infection is gone you should be able to start up on the mtx.  memeHI Blessed, I agree with Meme, I have recently restarted MTX after a chest infection that took forever to go away, now I have been back on MTX for 3 weeks and have a sinus infection I think, I have to see GP tomorrow.  So if I was you I would not up the pred as that can mask infections, I would make sure the infection is well and truly gone before restarting MTX, see your doc to see what next?  Best of luck, Janie. call your doctor.  no one here knows enough of your medical history to advise you properly on what is best for your situation. all we can offer is generalitiesbuckeye39404.2590277778Just wanted to offer my best wishes that you feel better soon.  I don't think you were stupid.  From what I've read, it's extremely common for patients to want to cut back and see how they do without full meds.  Maybe you don't need them at such a high dose anymore and how else can you know that if you don't try a lower dose?  The only thing I would suggest is doing it with your doctor's knowledge and advice next time if you can talk to him first.  I agree w/ what everyone has said so far. I wouldnt start the Mtx untill your dr says your sinus infection is completly gone.  Id hate to see you start it then have to go off it again.  Maybe call the dr tomorrow and see if you can get an appointment w/ him so he can check you out and tell you wether your all clear to start the mtx again.  Hope you get to feeling better quick!!!

Blessed,

Call your doctor to see what they suggest.

As a side note, my RD told me NOT to stop MTX when I was sick, only to stop my Enbrel.  I would get some clarification on what your RD wants you to do in the event of an illness.

When I have stopped MTX because of an infection it took 4 weeks for the RA to rear it's ugly head, you may have still been having relief from the MTX still in your system. Going from 5mg of Pred to nothing was too drastic. When I weened myself off that I went from 5mg to 2.5mg to 1.25mg, whole pill - half pill - quarter pill, two weeks on each new dose. I guess now you have a better idea that something was working, but it was a miserable way to learn it.Hey, I hope you start feelin' better soon sistah! I'll pm you tomorrow.
