Seroneg to Seropos - What are the chances | Arthritis Information

I'm new here. I was diagnosed last week with Seronegative RA. My ESR and CRP have been slightly raised all year and aches in joints have been increasing. No RF or CCP. Bone Scan showed inflammation in hands and feeet. I also have chronic dry eyes and mouth (sjogren's - but not diagnosed yet)

Started on Mtx last week.

My question is what is the possiblity of changing from seronegative to seropositive? Is there a time limit on this happeing - like - if I am still seroneg in a year then it will never change?

I don't know if its the same for patients with adult rheumatoid arthritis as it is for adults with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis but I was seropositive as a child then went into remission in early adulthood.  The RA came back 18 months ago after 25 years and now I am seronegative.

As a child I had severe joint disease and no eye involvement.  As an adult my joint disease is relatively mild but my eye is disease is severe.

Don't know if this helps but..........good luck

My rheumatologist says that most seronegative patients (like 75%-80%) convert to seropositive within a couple years of the first onset of symptoms.

Does nausea from Mtx go away after awhile?

Hi Mich and welcome! In answer to your question about Mtx, my nausea didn't go away until I switched to injectable. If you're being bothered with nausea, talk to your RD about switching.I have always been sero neg.  I was diagnosed 2 years ago but had symptoms 8-9 years ago when my first flare happened (of course being sero neg no one picked it up as a flare)  I've had both knees replaced (5 and 6 years ago).  I'm still sero- neg.  I always have to be in the mini percentage
