Fish Oil & Evening Primrose Oil | Arthritis Information

Hello All,

If you have not tried the combination of Cod Liver Oil and Evening Primrose Oil yet I have and it works for me. Much better than Cod Liver Oil alone.

I have had severe R.A. for 35 years now and have had all four Joints replaced (hips & knees).

I take both at nightime before going to bed I find that I have less problem with fish oil repeating on me this way although I found that this passed anyway when your body got used to taking it.

After I started taking these oils in combination after about three months I got rapidly better and I have been mostly pain free for about two years now. With only an occasional small flare.

It may not work for you but I was at the stage where I would have tried anything and when an old lady I met at the Rheumatoid clinic suggested I try this I was desperate enough to try it and it seems to has worked for me.

Be aware that they seem to have some minor side effects. It seems to make your Toe and Finger nails and your hair grow quicker than normal.

If anyone else has tried this comination I would be glad to have your opinion.

Kayjay.

How much cod liver oil do you take?  I use fish body oils.  I've tried evening primrose oil in the past; I never got any additional benefit from it.  Don't you worry about the potential vitamin A toxicity from cod liver oil?  I must admit, I don't know much about that particular supplement. Hi KayJay, glad to see you here on the throroughfare.

I use high doses of fish body oil to combat inflammation. After the first 3
months of taking it I noticed a DRAMATIC difference in swelling. I avoid fish
oils made fromt he liver because of thir high vitamin A and D content. At the
doses I take, if I were to use liver oil I would OD on Vitamin A in no time.

Yes, I do use the combo, but not cod liver oil, but fish oil and Omega 6 oils.  I have noticed a slight benefit, but not much.  I do get the eccentric coated, so they digest lower in the stomach and intestines.  I do not get the dreaded repeats from them!

Does cod liver oil and fish oil help with RA??? My aunt keeps telling me to get it but I didnt think it would help

MOT

Mom, I think it helps with overall inflammation. It is important to get your
total body inflammation down, not just the joints. I have not taken mine for
a while and I need to go back on it. How much does everyone take?3 grams omega-3's per day (anywhere from 5 to 10 capsules, depending on size and concentration).  If I stop taking it for a few weeks, I notice an increase in joint pain and swelling, and "female" issues.
Hi all,

I take one of each at bedtime both 1000mg strength.
I have not had any bad side affects.

As I am also Coeliac and have regular issues with that,
(I am a Chinese and Indian Curryaholic) and have frequent departures from what I am supposed to eat I dont think I am likely to overdose on any particular vitamin.

Although this is not recommended as a type of diet Coeliac Disease also controls your weight very effectively. (I went from 13 to 8 stone before I was properly diagnosed). My doctor thought I had an ulcer and was treating me for that.

The diagnosis procedure for Coeliac Disease is no fun either (an upper bowel endoscopy).

However I am enjoying life again so mustn't complain.

Kayjay
