methotrexate and low white count | Arthritis Information

I have been taking methotrexate for about 3.5 years. My white blood count has been on the low side for about a year (3500 or so). Recently it has dropped to 2800 and the rheumy has changed my dosage from 6 pills a week to 4 pills a week since the wbc went below 3000. Has this happened to anyone else? how long did it take for the counts to come up? Did your arthritis get worse with the decrease? Thanks.Hi  Doglady,
Welcome to AI!  I'm afraid I can't help you with the question, but I'm glad you posted it here.  As another MTX taker, I'm interested in any experiences anyone has with the drug.

I hope you find your answers here and that your white blood count normalizes soon.

All the best,
Joy
It is a sign of immunosupression. Your doctor is obviously keeping a good
eye on it.

yes this has happened to me twice in the 15 years I've been taking mtx.  I had to go off of the mtx for about 3 weeks.  my white blood cell count then went back up and then I went back on the mtx.  Both times I believe I was off mtx for 3 weeks...didn't feel too much different.

Hiya, Doglady! Welcome to the boards! I've been taking MTX since late April and my RD hasn't mentioned anything about my count. I hadn't thought to ask either... I figured no news is good news. I hope things get better for ya!Why is my wbc always high ??
