I am on Folic Acid because I am on MTX. I want to buy the pills over the counter. My Ra Dr. said it might be cheaper that way. The Folic Acid I bought is 800 mcg. How much would I have to take to equal 1 mg.? Thanks for any answers...well I think 1000mcg is 1ML.........I dunno about mg.....maybe this is one to ask your doc? There are different doses for different people, too. My doctor told me that 1 mg is 1000 mcg. He said that 1 800 would be okay to take because you get folic acid in the foods you eat as well. ssusannss39412.8261574074Can you get too much folic acid?I just googled that Link, and everything I found says "no"

800mcg= 0.8mg. lots of cereals have folic acid in it. Also Dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens and broccoli, Legumes such as dried beans and peas (black-eyed peas and black, pinto, kidney and navy beans) and peanuts, Asparagus, Orange juice and oranges, Avocado, Strawberries are all foods that contain folic acid.

While doing some reading, for medical purposes (as with ra) 1000-2000mcg is a typical dose and toxicity is rare because it is a water soluble vitamin so it is readily excreted by the body.

Thanks, KatieHigh intake of folic acid in and of itself is not necessarily harmful, but it can mask anemia caused by B12 deficiency. Thanks, JasNo problemo.
