I read and read and read and oh.... read.

I have odd things that doctors can't understand, so i try my best to find things to help.

Well, i now get bacterial vaginosis (without physical contact) and it is reoccuring. So i searched the internet for medication that was natural etc. I found Probiotics and ladies using it.

There were a TON of people using this so i decided to use it too. Well, my bacterial vaginosis is getting better but one seriously odd thing started to happen.....

My RA is feeling better, my psoriasis is clearing up on my fingers and my stomach is no longer sick whenever i eat food.

I suggest that any of you try searching google for probiotics and rheumatoid arthritis as the keywords and read some studies done etc. I think this is something that can help us all.

I have been riding in buggies in stores for a long long long time and today i walked a very large christmas tree ground with my cane to pick a tree and did just fine.

I am very scared though.

I am afraid it will go away and just be a one day thing.

I hope it's not and hope you all look into reading more about this as well.

Happy Holidays!

Keep going on the Probiotics! I'm an APer and we take antibiotics for our RA and we're supposed to take probiotics to replace the good gut flora but I forgot for 6 weeks during my move and did I start feeling pain in my feet again! It took me about a month to get back up to speed again.

There is also a lot of research linking bad gut flora (leaky gut) to breast cancer and a slew of other diseases.

I think probiotics can really help us all with AI diseases.

Hugs,

Pip

I posted thison Erica's med thread but I've decided it's more appropriate
here so I'm re-posting:

I've been really preoccupied with probiotics the last few months.
Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that live in your gut and keep
your gut healthy and they aid digestion. When you take antibiotics a
lot of these beneficial bacteria are killed so you have to replace
them. People not on antibiotics can also benefit from probiotics
because they boost gut health.

Food sources of probiotcs include live culture yogurt and kefir,
unpasteurized miso, and unpasteurised pickled vegetables (particularly
sauerkraut).

Many strains of probiotics can also be purchased in pill, liquid
(yogurt based) or powder form at the pharmacy. Look for brands with
varied probiotic cultures and enteric coating so the probiotics have a
better chance of getting past the stomach acid and into the gut.

When taking probiotics, be they food or pill form, you will get better
results by boosting the probiotic with prebiotics. Prebiotics are foods
that the friendly bacteria like to eat and help them multiply.
Prebiotic foods inlcude but are not limited to berries, oatmeal,
legumes, and Jerusalem artichokes (I love Jerusalem artichokes).

A live culture kefir or yogurt and berry smoothie is a great probiotic
snack, as it has both probiotics and prebiotics.

I've recently read that homemade kefir might be the best probiotic
because it has a very broad spectrum of bacteria and that bacteria
colonises in your gut whereas probiotics taken in pill form only live
in your gut on a transient basis and are expelled within a few days. I
have no idea of the validity of this).

Yeast also lives in your gut and if you have too much candida yeasts in
your sytem it can lead to acute health problems. Candida and probiotics
fight for space, so if you want the probiotics to win there are ways
you can handicap the candida, with not eating sugar, or white flour, or
things with yeast in them like alcohol or vinegars.

I was always on the brink of having yeast problems on AP but lately
since I have been getting more probiotics in food and that's helping. I
also now take oil of oregano which is an antifungal and helps with
yeast. I haven't felt "yeastie" for quite a while now, so I may be
getting a grip on it.

Now to increase more my probiotic intake...

GoGo -

Are you sure about the vinegars? I've seen post after post of Apple Cider Vinegar being good for killing yeast.

Pip

Pip, not all vinegars are equal, same as fats. Probably apple cider is okay. I
haven't done an anti-candida diet so I only know about it in general---I'm
not well versed on the specifics!Okay, I just looked it up and some anti-candida diet writers say to avoid all
vinegars except apple cider vinegars. There's always contradictions in these
diets! Like, avoid fermented foods, but probiotics are in fermented foods.
It's a question of balance.

Phew! I'd hate to think I've been gagging that stuff down for no reason.

:-)

Pip

Pip, how is taht working out for you? After reading about ACV I considered
adding it to my supplements but then I thought I was on enough already and
lately most of the time I feel GREAT (except when I don't feel great I feel
REALLY NOT great), but it looked pretty promising.

So do tell!

My problem is I truly hate the stuff that's making me better. I have the lowest gag threshold on the planet. I mean, I heave for no apparent reason just on 'yuck' factor.

However, that Apple Cider Vinegar seems to help. I had the systemic yeast from hell and with diflucan (1 a week) GSE, the vinegar, I'm finally only one or two days a month with the yeasties instead of 15 out of 30. I just went out and got more lemons (HATE lemon) and am going to start up the WL/OO drink again.

I need to cut out the sugar but we're heading into the 'eating' holidays and 'resistance is futile". I swear I spent all summer not eating sugar and not missing it and start killing yeast and CRAVE it. I'm telling you, these microbes know how to stay alive!

Pip

I'm drinking one now, and i have to say "mmmmm....kefir berry smoothie!".

I know what you mean....I have ONE diflucan that I've never taken, but it's a constant battle between me and the yeasties (it would help if I was better at controlling my sugar ingestion). I don't know if it's my probiotic and prebiotic food consumption, the oil of oregano, or the Jedi Mind Tricks, but lately I feel I've got those yeasties on the run!

I am happy to see I am not alone :)

I can't believe that my stomach doesn't hurt when i eat certain things. These foods bothered me since childhood. It's amazing, i take nature's way primadophilus optima.

I love this stuff. :)
