Were you ever on Accutane prior to developing your Autoimmune Disease? Yes or No, please.
Pip
No, my son begged me to let him go on it, and I wouldn't let him. That's stuff is way to scary.no, thought about it but ever did. Nope... but I've used retin-A cream to reverse some sun damage, after I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my lower left eyelid. Nope. Why?Oh I used retin-a for a long time. Didn't really work though. Is that similar? Not similar - different mechanisms of action.
Linncn - because I was once on a thread where all 3 - 4 of us were on Accutane and went on to develop RA. My thought at the time waS "Ok, that's odd, is that a trend?" Accutane works by shrinking your oil producing glands. No oil = no acne. But, since I've been ill I've noticed how much of this is our cells just aren't using the hormones we do make correctly. So...could it contribute?
Hugs,
Pip
Pip, I was on Accutane for 2 days but it was years ago (99? 2000?) It made me a vicious bitch so I had to quit taking it. I wasn't diagnosed with RA until April this year.I was on it circa...early 90's??? The thing is...you can't make a pimple if your life depends on it. Occasionally my body would try ...and my skin would crack to let it out. So, something so strong as to realign your entire endocrine system...how could that not hurt you in the long run?
I don't think 2 days would do it tho. Lucky you!
Maybe it was just a fluke with the Accutane posters on that one thread. But it did seem...odd.
Pip
Yes, it my 20's and 30's and my daughter used it for two courses too. I hope she doesn't come down with this. I've also been on Retin-A for acne since my 20's way before it was the wrinkle cream. I'm 55 now so that's a lot of Retin-A. I haven't seen that connection yet, though.
My sister with RA never used Accutane and I don't think my niece with lupus did either.
Missed this one! I took Accutane. Should I poll the moms????
