Hi All,

My mother in law has just been diagnosed with PMR, and I found your site whilst doing some research.

There are a couple of things that she has that dont seem too common with PMR.  Firstly, she has been expeiencing huge swelling just under her ear spreading to her temples, especially after eating.  She says its not too painful, it just feels really tight and taut.  Secondly she has been experiencing a buring pins and needles type of pain in a small patch on her right thigh.

Is this something any of you have had, or do you think its a possible misdiagnosis?

Any responses would be greatly recieved.

Thanks,Marie.

I would call the doctor right away. There is an associated disease called GCA she might should be checked for. Dont know about the pins and needles..

Thankyou, she has an appointment with the GP tomorrow.

Thanks for your speedy response, Marie.

Glad to hear your MIL has an appointment tomorrow! Does she not have a *rheumatologist* for treatment rather than a GP? Reason I ask is that PMR and GCA are not easily diagnosed, even by a rheumatologist.

How wonderful your MIL has you to intervene and find help for her!

ETA: Dang!

Until then she has been told it is PMR and she has been iven Dicoflex, anti inflammotories.

Ah...I understand. Glad to hear she's to be seen and hope it's soon.

It is a good thing you are researching this for her.  I hope someone goes with her to the Dr appointment.  Ask them to do the SED rate and C-Protein blood test.

Please keep us informed on how she is doing.  Best of luck.

Marie,
What happened at the doctor?
