MY FIRST VIAL OF MXT HERE GOES | Arthritis Information

Hello Everyone

I just picked up my first vial of MXT from the pharmacy.  It seems a little more intimidating than doing an Enbrel shot.  Maybe it is just my nerves I have not giving myself an injection since June. So I guess that is just adding to my anxiety about doing the MXT.  I do have a few question thought and I thought I would come to the experts LOL. Here goes

1.  Do you pre fill all your needles with medicine now or as needed?

2.  Do you rub the injection site.

3.  Where do you inject?  I was thinking I would try the stomach first

4.  Should I ice first like with Enbrel.

I thinks that's it any words of wisdom or tips are greatly appreciated I will be taking the plunge ha ha sometime tomorrow. Thanks and have a great day.

Hey!

No worries about the MTX, it really isn't that bad!!!

I only use one dose per vial.  I think it depends if your MTX has preservatives or not.  You might want to read the label or call your Pharm-D tomorrow if the label doesn't say.  I can only use my MTX vial one time, then I have to toss it.  So, to answer your question, I would say, one dose, fill as you need it (don't prefill).

I wouldn't rub the injection site, it will cause pain.  I give mine in the abdomen.   I doesn't really matter, as long as it is subq.  You can use ice, it will help numb the area and you feel the insertion of the needle.  I think MTX is less painful than Enbrel!

Good luck, you will do great!!  Keep us posted.

Good luck!  I hope it goes well!

Linda....I was you just last week.  That's when I gave myself the first MTX injection. I was very nervous but it was so much easier than the Enbrel.  I took it in my thigh, I couldn't even feel it.  At all. Had I not done it myself, I wouldn't have even known I had a shot!! I didn't ice it, didn't rub it and as I already said, didnt feel it.  So don't worry about a thing, it's a snap!!
