Essiac Tea? | Arthritis Information

I know a lot of you guys are into homeopathy and other alternative medicines, and a friend of mine recommended this tea to me so I was wondering if anyone had tried it.  It's kind of $$$ so I am looking for a second opinion before I take the plunge. LoL

My mom is a pharmacy tech and completely against alternative meds, but I'm willing to try anything at this point, I'm sure you guys can relate!

I looked around the net and found a lot of info on how it's used as a cancer treatment. The other thing that kept popping up was how it could be given to pets. I have never heard of this but I am going to google it. What surprises me
about your posts is that it sounds as if people think traditional is good and
alternative is unsafe and bad. Why is this? Many of our traditional meds are
compounded from natural substances such as lithium and morphine and
senna. I'm just wondering if it is because people are afraid of alternative?I don't know why it is.  With my parents, it's that they are conservative Christians and they see alternative medicines as connected with mysticism.  Personally, I think God works in all kinds of ways that we don't understand, and if it's essiac tea or any other "alternative" medicine, then I will not complain. :)

I hope you did not get the impression that I share my family's view of alt. meds.  I am open-minded at this point, since traditional meds haven't done so well for me yet.

My googling also turned up the tea as cancer medication.  My friend said that she knew a girl with JRA who used it with fantastic results.
In this forum, I see most members going with traditional only. Many are not
at all, interested in anything but pills. I see very few here that will try
anything else and seem to be stuck in vicodin and prednisone mode.(sorry
guys but I read what I read) This is a very narrow minded approach when it
comes to treating this disease. You have to look at every option out there to
help yourself. If something does not work, at least you tried it. Try the tea
as long as it is not toxic to one of your organs. Try other things, both
traditional and alternative. A good diet and exercise are good places to
start. Also, with the tea, you don't want to drink it if it stimulates your
immune system, that is not a good thing with this disease.

Amber,

I have not personally tried it but friends that did had some positive health improvements.  I say it can't hurt to try it.  In the late 80's I did try a similiar product "Sir Jason Winters Herebal tea".  It has same properties and at the time I tried it upon drinking first batch the room got brighter.  I thought this is strange so I tried it on co-workers and they reported the same experience.  At the time, I was just checking out healthy remedies.

Shortly after that I developed asthma and was told by the doctor that I would never not have asthma.  I revisited the tea and drank it every day.  Within 2 weeks I stopped wheezing and was able to wean myself off the inhaler. In the process I also lost 20 pounds.  It was a time in my life that I felt the best.

So I found the tea to benefical.  Maybe I should order some more:)

Hope this helps you.

Good Luck, LuAnn

Ooooh, I know why!  It's because we're told there are a lot of people out there trying to separate us from our money and we need to be careful.  There are a lot of people out there trying to separate us from our money - lots and lots of scams.  It isn't until you really start looking into something else that you figure out that the scams are on both sides of the aisles - alternative and traditional - and you have to find the truth somewhere in between the two.

Try this or similar websites to check for interactions.

MrsAlexander - oddly, the vets are not as tied to business as usual so a lot of really cool research started with them and from thier results Pharma looked into and started the current human research.

APer's don't buy into the 'attacking self' model so we tend to want to boost our immune systems or at least get it to try and function more 'right'.

Hugs,

Pip

Thanks Pip :)  I didn't find the tea on the list, but it was informative and I looked up my other meds while I was there. LOL Pip. You're like a kid in high school. "OH OH PICK ME!!" We have a "natural" pharmacy here that's sells alternative meds and
supplements, and you can get your traditional medications there as well, The
pharmacists are traditionally trained and if you tell them what you're taking
they can look up contradictions for you. Maybe there's something like that in
your town?

They even have a herbalist who will compound custom tinctures for wjat ails
you. Thanks Gimpy I'll ask around. I've never heard of a pharmacy like that around here but there are a few natural remedy shops.  I'm always afraid to try to ask for help there because I don't know enough to be able to tell whether they are really trying to help or just trying to sell me something.

You can ask questions via email at that store, and they sell essiac tincture online, so maybe if you don't have a place like that locally you could just email them.

In the USA we don't really have any controls on herbal remedies - They can put any old thing in that tea bag...and charge you a big bundle for it. Even if they are honest and the price is fair the strength of the herbal stuff can very wildly. There are lots of good reasons to be cautious.

If it is strong enough to help you, it is also strong enough to hurt you! (True of all remedies not just the alternate ones.)

Unfortunately the FDA just took over regulating Vitamins etc. so...we're not going to get anything 'true' from them, just watered down stuff to not conflict with all the Pharma fees they collect.

Essiac tea is an immune enhance, thus its use in cancer patients.

Often it is sold as an essence and a given amount--a quarter cup--is mixed with a certain amount--one gallon--of filtered water.

There is not much anecdotal evidence in AI diseases, or at least none that I am aware of, but it has been found helpful in cancer patients in warding off colds, helping to heal mouth ulcers, and suppressing, if not eliminating, opportunistic yeast infestations. Some patients report that it improves appetite and perks up taste buds.

I second Gimpy's suggestion: talk to an herbalist who is familiar with the concoction
