Figured out Fibro Pain | Arthritis Information

Ok so I googled it... fibro & RA pain. And it gave me a site to "explain" the difference between the 2.

It says that with fibro pain you do not have swelling like you do with RA. I thought I read somewhere else that you did have swelling with Fibro.

Never let me check up on my own diseases while being medicated LMAO! Because I just forget, rearrange, or confuse what the heck I read.

Ok... just thought of another question....

How would you know if it is RA or Fibro if, your RA is not under control and you are swelled in the joint, but it feels like fibro too? Like the weighed down feeling fibro gives ya?

I guess you would not be able to know the difference unless one of them were under control, huh?

Although I have RA and not fibro, but no swelling.  Odd indeed.  Maybe I do have fibro and have had the wrong dx for 7 years. . . if I had fibro would RA meds work for me? Humm... good question, Amber. Not sure. I just got Fibro, had RA FOREVER. Pooey!Joonie, it is possible and very probable to have a joint/area that is affected by both at the same time!!!! Hey Joonie, for me the fibro is not in the joint but in the muscles around the joint and actually eases up a little when I move around, the ra pain gets worse then.  I have swelling with the fibro and sometimes it is hard to tell which is causing it. The fibro in my hands makes me look like a need a fluid pill big time and the ra usually does not. I have started taking more meds for fibro and have found that my biggest problem is with fibro. Hope maybe this helps.

Ya know I feel the same I dont have any swelling anymore and no direct joint pain. It's just all over pain and weakness. Like I weigh 500 lbs sometimes. I might ask my doc about the lyrica. I've been taking Tramadol for the muscle pain and it helps but not that great.

Hi Mo3, those are my biggest symptoms and problems right now. I am taking Elavil(sp) at night along with the Tramadol and it has really helped. The Tramadol alone was not all that great but adding the Elavil to the mix seem to triple the effect of the Tramadol. I was having trouble that my legs felt like they weighted 100lbs a piece and we added Requip and that has helped as well. Hope your dr. is willing to help you, I had to go to my ARNP to get help with the fibro.

momofthree39414.7901967593I think this is really confusing too as fibro and RA do seem to meld together...I have often wondered if I had fibro as well as the RA.

Recently I asked my doctor whose response was, "Does it matter, woman, who knows, you have so much pain everywhere."

Well, I can see her point.

But just out of curiosity, if anyone ever figures it out it would be nice to know.
Sorry for the confusion Mo3. Yes, Requip IS for restless leg syndrome. The heavy feeling in my legs was caused by the fact that my legs were never still at night and therefore never getting any "rest". Many people who have fibro also have RLS. Elavil (sp) is also know as Amatryptline, it is a seizure medicine that is used to treat neurapathy AND fibro. It works similar to Neuroton, Lyrica, etc.

i hate to be a downer but you need to consider a 3rd choice for the source of your pain.  if i understand correctly from what you have written you have fairly severe joint damage.  your ra and fibro can both be quiet but you can still be in pain due to the secondary osteoarthritis

Thanks for the reminder, Buckeye.

Country Girl - That is where my pain is like around the joint, but I cannot really tell if it is from the swelling or fibro. That is why I was confused, until I read fibro does not cause swelling.

As of lately when something swells, my muscle around it gets very tight and limits my ROM even more.

Like last night and today... right shoulder is swelled cannot feel the bone like I can my left shoulder and my muscle around it and down to my tricep is sore and it is tight and the same way to my right side of my neck. I cannot move my arm but a few inches up and when I do move it is sheer pain and my arm feels heavy. The pain is not in my joint but around it and in the muscles.

We had another weather change last night. It was warm yesterday in the 70's I believe and then dropped down to the mid 30's last night. When the temps got down to around 40 degrees around 9pm is when my shoulder swelled and then my arm felt heavy and then later around midnight it hurt to lay on my shoulder and the muscles around it were tense and sore like someone punched me in the arm.

I ran outta muscle relaxers... but the pain pill I took worked for awhile. It was darvocet, which is a pretty crappy pain pill. Not taking anymore Lortabs unless I just NEED to.
